Things only seem to last 6 to 8 years max these days....

I had a 37 yr old appliance doing my garden this year only mowed the grass though - didnt have the time to do the weeding!!!

Hope you got new shoes though.... I think most people use the stuff with a sponge on now a days...) used to love cleaning my shoes on a Sunday night ready for school.... and if I did my dads I got paid.....:D

That has reminded me that tucked away in a cupboard I've got 2 polishing brushes each stamped with the number 4243921. That was my husband's RAF number - the brushes were issued to him when he joined up in 1958.

I've also got an army blanket (last used as the late dog's blanket) that was issued to my eldest brother when he started his National Service in 1951. Heaven knows how old it is as it wasn't new when he got it. :D

General Electric clothes dryer, circa 1968, General Electric microwave oven, circa 1980 and a Roper gas stove, circa 1979. All in good working order.

I got given a pocket clothes brush when i was about 9 by a neighbour who worked for Quicks at Bury and he'd been retired god knows how many years by then he died in 1986 in his 80's and ive still got it now.

I have a plain white chamberpot which was wedding present to my mum and dad from fellow mill workers in mid 1930s. It was a common practice to give a chamberpot which was gift wrapped containg 2 black puddings and a stick of thick liquorice ;)
