The book maybe planted a seed, but the author can take no plaudits for this, the effort was yours.

The fact is, you can only advise an adictee. The addict of whatever substance has to do it for themselves. Glad you done it, how long since your last smoke?

4 days, and before you say it MR negativity, NO I don't want one!! NO I will never start again!! There are ciggies that are laying around on my breakfast bar that belong to my husband!! But the thought of just having one puff of a ciggie makes me cringe, and like I said in another post, I would rather cut my arms off than have another.

I didn't spend a penny!! I borrowed mine off my friend (( look back through posts)) I was referring to people that will pay for it.

The book doesn't claim to make you give up!! It claims to help you to give up easily. Have you ever tried?? If you have you will only too well remember the empty feeling you get!! all day every day, day in day out. Christ at one point when I last tried to stop, I ended up dreaming about them.

The book helps stop all the " empty, missing something " feelings. THAT is a fact!!
That is how I can tell you it works!! Not mainly the giving up, but how easy it has been. And yes, it is mainly down to me, because the book is based on SELF hypnotizing!! amongst other things.... but please don't knock it til you have read it.

If after you have read it you think it is garbage, then so be it.

I dont know why you keep quoting me, I can recall what I have posted.Fact is you dont know me, Mr Negativity is not a label to associate with me with, Mr Realistic perhaps, I dunno. Look, you are doing good with the cigs, only 4 days granted, good none the less. I'm just flummoxed that you cant see it's down to you.

I can see both points in this debate, Slinky you believe quite rightly that this book has helped you kick the fags into touch. What Bonnyboy is saying is that if you hadn't been ready to quit no book could have helped you. On that note I'm off for a fag:D I am not ready for quitting!!!

All your advice is good Jambutty, but could you not have held off a little too, whilst the photograph was taken of you in your avatar .. :D

Lilly: the smoke in the house is a good incentive, particularly as I have just had downstairs newly decorated and I keep looking up at the ceiling to see if it is turning yellow yet.

As lots of my friends smoke too, I would not stop them from enjoying a cigarette in my home though and ban them to the garden on a cold winter's day. Do you ?

I'd probably be tempted to relax the rules if I didn't have children but I very firmly feel that it's their home too and I don't want all their clothes, toys etc to be smelling of fags, in addition to all the other risks to their health.

I’m not quite sure if I understand what you are saying.

My avatar is me as I am, English (the flag) and how some people might view me.

I was just trying to give Lilly a gentle push to quitting smoking. We all need that, be it from a friend, a stranger or a book. The longest journey starts with the same first step as trip to the local shop.

I finished the book last night and it filled me with the same optimism that Slinky has.

I put my last few cigarettes, tobacco etc in a drawer, washed the ashtrays and stacked them away 'for guests'.
I turned off my air washing machines and threw open all the windows.

I managed to NOT have a cigarette from waking until 3pm. I have smoked for 50 years so I am making silly excuses to myself that I am more addicted than most people, even though after reading the book I know that such excuses are not valid.

I will try again -- because the cigarette that I have just had tasted awful, made me dizzy, and made me feel a failure.

I can see the benefits of being a non smoker - today I have been less breathless.

I will have to read the book again. I can see how his method works - I have spent the day (until 3pm) explaining my cravings to myself as 'there is a little demon named addiction inside me and the little b****r wants feeding or it will die'. I have said to it all day - 'starve you little**** '.

Perhaps I made the mistake of not throwing out the ciggies I had left.
I intend to try again.
I have found a webpage where it is possible to download his latest book

Allen Carr's Easyway Worldwide: FREE DOWNLOAD OF ALLEN CARR'S LATEST BOOK 'SCANDAL'

and will be reading that to see if it helps.

Now I have fed that little devil with a dose of nicotine it will be harder to resist its demands for more. To visualise addiction in this way does seem to harness personal resolve to fight it.

My battle against addiction is not over yet - I have 'retreated to regroup my defenses'.

Hope you manage to do it Margaret, did you go into it with the same resolve as Slinky? It is so hard to give up just hope you manage it in the end!!

According to the book I shouldn't have felt cravings. Perhaps I read it too fast. The method of visualising addiction as a parasite that demands feeding is a powerful one. I do have confidence that I will defeat it yet.

Smoked for 5 years ish then one day decided to stop.. In the middle of smoking a cig I decided to throw it and I haven't picked up one since.. :p
