The Cheek Of Some People!!
Just been to Asda and as I was waiting for my taxi a woman came over and asked if I had a fiver to spare. Now I'm not averse to helping people if I can but thought she had a bit of cheek asking for a fiver. It was also a bit worrying as Asda was closing and there weren't many people about. Just watch yourselves when going shopping as you can never be to careful with people like this hanging about!!

Re: The Cheek Of Some People!!
Similar thing happened to me in town last week on my way home from work. A young lad of about 12 or 13 stopped me & asked if I would lend him a pound for his bus fare home - bit cheeky as he was stuffing his face with a pastie from Gregg's at the time so he'd obviously spent his fare on that.

Re: The Cheek Of Some People!!
I can't stand aggressive beggars.
|
Re: The Cheek Of Some People!!
I was annoyed once because a woman stopped me on the way to work last november and gave me this long story about needing money for the bus to somewhere a bit far away (think it may have been leyland or chorley) and I felt like I should try giving her a bit of change, so I did, and the week later I walked past and the very same woman was spinning the same story to someone else. She saw me walking by and didnt look the least bit embarrassed, so I just raised my eyebrows at her. Cheeky cow.

Re: The Cheek Of Some People!!
Who are these vile people? They are so cheeky, they really get my goat. I hope I don't run into any of them. I'll tell them where to get off and I'll probably get my throat slit for it.
Did you give her a fiver, Bernadette? |

Been thinking some more about this and feel I should bring it to the attention of the staff. As I said earlier someone a bit more vunerable may feel threatened by this sort of thing. Will phone them tomorrow just let them know.

Re: The Cheek Of Some People!!
I was walking to work one time early in the morning, and a 'traveller' pulled into the side of the road, pressed the button on the electric window thingy for the passenger side, leaned over and said, "Hey mister give us a pound so I can get my child some breakfast cereal", It was said as if she was desperate, my reply was, "I have just got up to go to work, I have exactly one pound on me for my lunch and you want me to give it to you for this child that is sat next to you with chocolate smears all around his mouth?" My next set of words cannot be repeated on a family site, though the child seemed to recognise every one of them.

Re: The Cheek Of Some People!!
If you're ever visiting Blackburn in the car and park on the car parks there look out for this scam. A lad (in his twenties at a guess) approached me and asked if I could spare " a couple of quid" so he could buy some petrol for his car which had supposedly run dry !! After politely declining his request by saying I couldn't help him, I sat in the car for about half an hour (whilst waiting for my mother to return) and watched the guy succesfully obtain cash from five different people.
Imagine my surprise when a couple of days later, when parked on the same rooftop car park the same guy approached me again, recognised me from our earlier encounter then obviously thought better of asking me.Now he's either a complete fool who's always running out of petrol in the same places or..........just another scamming beggar.I'll let you all draw your own conclusions!!!:D |
Re: The Cheek Of Some People!!
I’ve declined from posting in this thread, as for me it’s fairly emotive. I would however like to add this. I know there are folk who just “try it on” just another way of making a fast buck., we’ve all probably been conned at some point or other by such scoundrels.
However, not all who beg can be classified as “scum” Some beg because of an illness, addiction. Be it drugs, alcohol…whatever. When the money tap at home gets turned off they will do as they need to feed the addiction. I’m not saying give these people money, just asking you to spare a thought, they may well have a loving family behind them, attempting to support them whilst attempting to keep the rest of the family together. Scum isn’t applicable across the board. |
Re: The Cheek Of Some People!!
I usually pull my large roll of 50s out take the rubber bands off, and give it to the cheeky beggar to attach the sole of his shoe to the upper.:D

Re: The Cheek Of Some People!!
Bonnyboy I too have had experience of drugs very close to home (not saying you were referring to drugs) and hope and pray that having to beg didn't come into the equation. I just found the experience a little disconcerting to say the least. Hope you don't think badly of any of us we may only see the world through our eyes at times.

Re: The Cheek Of Some People!!
Begging never used to be a problem ------ until children were taught it was acceptable------- by the introduction of 'trick or treat'

Re: The Cheek Of Some People!!
That maybe so BUT the store is still open at 15:54 as it does not close until as the sign says 1600. I still had 6 minutes to get in and buy the item i wanted and get out as i dont mess about looking around when i know what i wanted. If i had a shop and i closed at 4PM i wouldnt dream of saying you cant come in before 4PM only afterwards would i say sorry we are closed and its the way he said it to me too.

Re: The Cheek Of Some People!!
Get a complaint in to head office, if more people complained things might just improve!!
|
Re: The Cheek Of Some People!!
The way to defeat beggars is to say something like, “I was just going to ask you to lend me a xxxxx.”
I am surprised that no one offered to give her five – a bunch of fives that is - right on the end of the proboscis. |
