Oh wouldn't it be lovely to be back in those days?

A lot of small shops just don't have enough space inside them for a double buggy. It's bad enough trying to get wheelchair access to places. Some are just too small.

Wouldn't it just? willow, I am one of the unfortunates who is stuck in a timewarp, though I still have my values, morals and itegrity intact, and my children know right from wrong, so it isn't a bad thing to be old fashioned in my humble opinion.

All public places are supposed to be wheelchair friendly, if they aren't they could find themselves in trouble if a wheelchair user complains. It is discrimination against disabled people!!!

Yeah but the point is a lot of shops these days are just too small to be able to fit a wheel chair in(not the shopkeepers fault). As a couple of examples the 3 mobile phone shop, and arndale news are both tiny and would struggle to accomodate a wheelchair. But i agree where possible shopkeepers should make an effort to make there stores accessible to everyone.

Not 'quite' accurate bernadette, you have to make all 'reasonable' modifications.

e.g. our local Church has just converted a cellar for use with youth worship. Its down a load of steps either from the outside or internally. It would not be practical to make it accessible to wheelchair bound children. It was investigated whether a stair lift or something could be installed but we were advised that it was neither practical or safe in case of emergency exits. As it is it is not possible except of they were carried down . This is fully covered and there is no case for a discrimination case as due diligence was undertaken

Automatic sliding doors are a great asset for wheelchair users but they just wouldn't fit in some shops, so how do they go about getting through the door if they are unaccompanied?

I had a double pram, except it was a tandem one (baby in back, toddler in front) my two children are only 17months apart and as the eldest was a late walker (preferred bum shuffling :D) there was no way he could have walked any distance on reins!!

I used to avoid shops that I knew I would have problems getting around in.

And to go back to the original subject...I haven't read the complaints but feel it is down to parents to judge what is safe and what isn't

The off licence I work in, you would have great difficulty getting a wheel chair in and certainly a double pram. Doesn't mean we can't be of assistance tho. We have a sign asking wheelchair users just to open the door. We then serve them from the door. No hassle for them trying to get in and out

seems to me most Mothers with a baby and a toddler use a buggy board these days

Its just like saying when I went out round town last night and had a few drinks and this morning i could smell beer on me so i think ill go for compensation.
