Re: traditions and habits
I remember sending my requests to Santa by writing notes on little pieces of paper and holding them (carefully) over the fire. They would fly up the chimney and all the way to the North Pole. I never had gifts under the tree; they appeared in a pillow case at the bottom of my bed. I remember that my great aunt Jane would bring a loaf of bread, a piece of coal, and some salt wrapped up in a twist of paper as gifts for the home, along with the box of snot rags that she bought me every year. Never a toy, always hankies! Except that one year it was socks. But these were the days when the lead soldiers were covered in paint with lead in it; and every toy had bits which could choke a kid to death.

Used to leave sherry or whisky and a carrot for rudolph the reindeer and a cake or biscuits depended on what mum had in!!!

Re: traditions and habits
I had a habit (not christmassy) whereby I wore my knickers inside out.
I explained this to myself by reasoning that the seams irritated my sensitive skin, and it was more comfortable to wear them that way.(princess and the pea syndrome) I later learned that it was a sign of a witch (thought I was the only one in the village ;)) So I eventually cracked the habit with the help of seamless underwear |

Me too, it was hooked over the bottom bedpost. I used to wake up several times during the night to check if he'd been and as soon as he had I would rush into my parent's room with the bulging pillow case to show them what he'd brought. Poor things must have only just gone to bed! :D |

Aaaw that's lovely.
A friend of mine jingles sleigh bells around the house and even has a flashing reindeer nose which he hoopes the children might catch a glimpse of. |
Re: traditions and habits
My mum always bought us new pjs and she doesnt the same for my lad now. When i started going to church at about 8 or 9 they used to do Christmas eve carols by candle light and i always used to go to that until i was about 16 and i was draw to the booze. My mum also used to sing me a song on xmas eve as well as i went to bed. Christmas magic. Love it.
