When you look at what the Royal family do with bringing tourists to this country because of all the pomp and ceremony that our economy would be as good as it is!!!

The Royal Residences > About the Royal Residences

Meaning that for 362/3 days a year the buildings are NOT open to the public.

She, her family and the hanger on parasites are a total waste of time.

I've got to disagree. I think the Queen works very hard. All her public engagements for a start and there will be an awful lot of other jobs we don't know about that she does as Head of State.

I agree that there are several hangers on and the civil list needs cutting down but I'm sure that the Queen herself is worthy of being on it. :)

The civil list the people on it are The queen and Prince Phillip, how can you cut the list down further?

Other than The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh is the only member of the Royal Family to receive an annual parliamentary allowance to enable him to carry out official public duties supporting The Queen.

Since 1993, The Queen has repaid to the Treasury the annual parliamentary allowances received by other members of the Royal Family.
(That has come from the monarchy website)

I wouldn't want to work like she does at her age anyway that's for sure.

When the queen struggles to work every morning on overcrowded roads and then struggles back home on the same overcrowded roads and struggles to find the mortgage/rent payment every month and waits months for a hospital appointment and has to make the choice of keeping warm or buying food, then I will concede that she works hard. Until then she and her lot are just parasites.

She carries on as head of state for purely selfish reasons WillowTheWhisp. She wants to go down in history as the oldest and longest reigning monarch in the world.

That's never going to happpen though, is it? She can't help being born into her role, a role she never would have had to take if her uncle hadn't abdicated. She's always done her best. She's never going to have to queue for her pension or wait for a hospital appointment like us because she's the Queen and she's never experienced poverty but she can't help that.

Poverty is hard work and the Queen has her every need catered for so she wouldn't know much about that but that doesn't mean that she doesn't work hard as Head of State with her engagements, meetings etc.

Thanks Shillelagh. :)

I didn't realise that the Queen and Prince Phillip are the only ones on the civil list. What am I thinking of then?

I remember a big hoo hah a few years back when it was revealed how much money is claimed by some of those referred to as 'hangers on' with their grace and favour houses. Princess Michael of Kent was one and there were many others.

No it is never going to happen, but that isn’t the point.

She knows as well as did her father, grandfather/mother before her that the privileged position that they hold/held was down to their forbears who killed and pillaged the land for that land to take possession of it. Some they gave away to ‘favourites’ for services rendered. Like boot licking. But the rest was kept for themselves and granted to off spring.

No death duties there. Yet we get clobbered if we leave a substantial amount of property to our off spring. A land owning farmer cannot leave his land to his son/daughter without losing a chunk of it to the state because of death duties.

If poverty is hard work and the queen has every need catered for then life must be a doddle.

Royalist sycophants always trot out the ‘she works hard’ excuse without defining what hard work is.

Hard work is getting up each and every morning (except holidays) at some ungodly hour, battling your way to work to spend some four hours at the desk, shop, factory or behind the wheel of a lorry etc, taking a break for a quick snack and then another four our stint working for a wage only marginally above the legal minimum, then battling your way home to do some housework before tumbling into bed exhausted.

I doubt if the queen has ever had a duster in her hand let alone loaded a washing machine and then ironed the contents.

Hard work! She doesn’t know the meaning of the word let alone actually done some.

I second that. How many other world leaders bring to their jobs the dedication, aherence to duty, and profound love of country that Queen Elizabeth does? Sure she's old fashioned and has a horrible taste in hats, but she stands for, and lives her life by, the values that so many on this forum decry the loss of.
