You can't give blood if you have received a blood transfusion before 1980 due to the blood having possibly being contaminated with BSE before this date.

Having a Caesarean does not stop you from giving blood, only if you had a transfusion during it. Some people do and some don't, it depends. I had a Caesarean but did not need a transfusion so I would still be able to give blood.

I agree with Harwood red, your never too squeamish to receive it!

though you could have religious reasons to not recieve it :p I assume jehovas witnesses (and any others that refuse transfusions) dont give blood either.

Its quite a strong belief to want to die rather than accept someone elses blood into your body.

But that is not what I was talking about!! Would you not accept blood if you were in need of a transfusion??

It's a strong belief that let's one of your children die before you will allow a transfusion, unthinkable!

I dont do everything he says but thats one thing that makes him physically sick and its fair enough to not give blood to avoid making him sick. He cant even hear the word needle without going pale as a sheet.

And sometimes I walk AHEAD to avoid being seen with him when he's wearing a particularly stupid outfit. His older brother says he dresses like 'a gay cowboy' lol.

Yes but there are ways for doctors to get around that. Although its 'unethical', there are situations where doctors have given blood transfusions to children behind their parents back because its unreasonable to let a child die who isn't even old enough to decide upon a religion. Also, in Canada the courts ordered children be taken off a woman who gave birth to several babies (think it was 6?) because she refused to allow a blood transfusion, so they gave the children a transfusion outside of her care and then gave them back to her. Fair enough I'd say.

I couldn't do it panther, and I despise anybody that could, in my eyes that is the equivalent of murder!

I think your bloke chundering is a small price to pay for you giving blood that could help somebody. And, as has already been said, I'm sure he wouldn't have any reservations about receiving it!

He has quite strongly said he'd rather die than have an injection, and I think that would actually include blood. If you know anybody with a phobia you would understand that it's more than just a bit of a worry, its terrifying and they even strongly believe it will do them harm if they let the thing near them.
He chipped a tooth skateboarding and pulled it out himself, because he didn't want to go to the dentist and have a needle. Can you imagine ripping your own tooth out when its not even wobbly? He has bad teeth and I warn him about absesses but he doesn't care, there isn't a chance in hell a needle is going near him. I think you'd only manage to get one in him if he was unconscious, and when he woke up he'd only rip it out again... or faint! When it comes to the point of fearing your girlfriend will have a needle in her arm, I think I believe him when he says he would refuse a needle even if he needed it to live.

When he gets an abcess, I am sure that he will be willing to have as many needles as the dentist wants to stick in him, I hate needles, they make me faint, but three times now, I had to have them, in abundance, and was actually glad of it. Nobody goes through life without injections.

Re: give em ya blood!

I had ...note had a phobia of needles and knew that one day I would have to conquer this fear of them.... especially as having kids would involve having blood checked when pregnant etc....

How did I get over it...I gave blood.. I went probably 18 years ago, explained my fears and they were fantastic..especially when I fainted twice  they took it slowly and explained everything with me.

But now, although I still have a strong dislike for them and certainly can't watch a needle..I can happily give blood, and now it's more to do with thinking what if my kids needed blood and there wasn't any!!!!!
