Meters aren't perfect
I once had a gas meter than ran slow- I had lovely low bills for a few years - thought it was due to the 3ft walls of the cottage I lived in - until the meter started running backwards - and was replaced :(
At my next property I had huge gas bills and blamed it on being a gable end with high ceilings. Eventually I asked for the meter to be checked. I had to pay a fee for the check but it was refunded when the check revealed that it was faulty. A refund was calculated on the percentage it had been found running fast, but that refund only was backdated for 2 quarters.
Ah well - swings and roundabouts!
Ever since, I have monitored my fuel usage. It pays to discuss usage with neighbours with similar sized property and lifestyle usage.
All meters (gas AND electric) are capable of developing faults.

If they were the ones who suggested it, they shouldn't charge - If YOU asked for it, they will.
In 1980 the charge was about £15 - rules may have changed now.
The meters are sent 'for government test' - ie independant

its all part of the service that you are paying for, it was so much easier when i had prepayment meters, no bills to deal with

Pre-payment metering is the most expensive way of paying for gas and electric.

Although you didn’t have a quarterly bill you still had a regular bill in charging your card meter.

Yeh it is i came off pre payment to bill on the eleccy, though keeping the gas on prepay for now cos as i have found with the eleccy the gas will be the worst bill for nasty surprises.

You pay a standing charge on the pre pay meters that you dont for bill.

Looks like its british gas turn to put their prices up:rolleyes:
British Gas, the UK's biggest power provider, is to put up both gas and electricity bills by 15%.

The price rises for its 16m customers will come into effect immediately.:(

They rang me up yesterday afternoon asking if I would be prepared to return to them for my gas and electric. Glad I told them to ****** off. Told them they abuse their customers as they are always one of the first to hike prices and one of the last to cut prices.

I heard today that british gas are on 600 odd million profit, and that is five times per person more than any other company, n power recently bought homeserve (old servowarm) so they are offering central heating, servicing and heating breakdown cover, but like bg, the terms and conditions are terrible, more get out clauses than the government!

Re: n power 1st to go up this year

Apparently the UK can supply more gas than we actually need. We don’t have the capacity to store our supplies, so we sell it to Continental Europe in the summer, they store it and sell us it back during the high usage months (according to some bloke on the news) Just what kind of MUGS are we ?

I seem to be missing the point about high gas prices being in some way linked to the high oil price, is gas not gas and oil… oil. Maybe I’m just too numb to see the equation

Unless I’ve missed it there is no news from Powergen.

But then they can’t even send bills out on time. I’m still waiting for the one that should have been sent before Xmas. I rang them 2 weeks ago to ask where my bill was. They said that they would send me another. I rang them this morning to ask about my bill. They said that they would send me another.

This is the second quarter on the trot when I have had to ask for my bill.

Maybe they are angling to force me into a Direct Debit scheme?
