New Lady Mayoress

For the coming year is Sue Johnson ! She will the Mayoress to Pam Barton. I am really thrilled for Sue, she is a fantastic lady, she runs the Peel Park pub and has raised thousands for charities for years ,esp MacMillan. She is also on the governors at Peel Park. She will be a real asset to the town. Wonderful news!
Congratulations Sue from Lindsay and Kelsey.:alright::wave8:

Well I seem to be agreeing with a lot of people on here these days, I've kown Pam for many years, well before she entered politics, and Sue as well, even though I haven't seen either for quite a long time, But like you say lindsay they will be a credit to the Borough

Pam Barton is going to be the Mayor and as she is a widow she has chosen Sue, her friend of 30 years to be her "consort" so to speak.

Thanks for that, it sort of makes sense.

I personally don't see the point in having a Mayor. They appear to be an unneeded expense to the Borough.

Maybe someone can explain what a Mayor does that is worth spending the money to have one.

Will PB be mayor next year?

I think that it's mainly civic duties but I know when my Uncle was Mayor he did a great deal of fund raising too. The Mayor is supposed to represent the Borough at functions etc. I know it's a full time job so to speak and my Uncle was worn out at the end of his term. Very enjoyable though and a real honour I would think.

Hope not! Not exactly the face of the Borough that we want anyone else to see is it? :hidewall:

I'm sure it is a great honour to be Mayor but despite what i have read i still can't see what a Mayor brings to the borough, especially nowadays.
Anybody can be a fundraiser,i'm not knocking the charitable work done but i can't see how that justifies the expense.

I was wondering about that myself, this might enlighten a few. Judge for yourselves the value of having a Mayor/Mayoress

What will it look like when we have 2 Mayoress's? We will be a laughing stock. I can just imagine the lesbian comments in the Observers readers letters.

Wrong Neil you wont be a laughing stock - here in rossendale our current mayor and mayoress are both female, it happened a few years ago as well, our current deputy mayor and mayoress are also both female our deputy mayor died and his wife took on the role with both of their daughters taking on the mayoress role.

It still sounds daft to me, not as daft as replacing a Mayor with a mayoress and then a mayoress with the two daughters, even more expense. Then again you lot do strange things 'over the hill' to me :D
