Annoying yet puzzling phone call

I just had a phone call - well no, to be accurate I didn't have a phone call.

The phone rang. The caller asked to speak to Mrs. T............ I told them there was no Mrs T. There is a Miss T (in fact two of them but neither are here at the mo.) and I was about to add that I am Mrs T-H and ask did they want me or one of my daughters. But they just asked for Mrs T again so I said , "There is no Mrs. T" and was about to add that I am Mrs T-H but they hung up! Now I'm left wondering if it was something important and the caller was too ignorant to listen, or was it a sales call and the caller was to thick to listen to my reply.

I did try calling back in case it was important as the number didn't seem to be one of those pointless ones but the phone just rang and rang and no reply so don't know there's much else I can do.

If it is important they will call back, it was probably a sales call.

I was thinking they won't call back though if they think that they got the wrong number.

I've since had a phone call for Emzie - even before school finished let alone giving her chance to get home and one for somebody who I've never even heard of!

I've just had one too, sounded like a call centre asked for me back full name then hung up before I could say yes.

They didn't ask me for anything - just didn't give me chance to find out who they were trying to speak to.

Maybe if you had said this is Mrs T-H earlier they might have had a chance but they might have thought you were getting abit shirty with them because they had the wrong number? or they might have just presummed that Mrs T no longer lived in the property and you were a new women in the life of Mr T (not the Mr T but Mr T) therefore not the person they were looking for? Doesn't excuse them putting the phone down mind you :)

It’s just a technique to get you curious and engage you in conversation. Or it is someone trying to be funny.

My response to all calls, even if they ask for me by name, is always, unless I recognise the caller, “Who’s speaking” and I wait for them to identify themselves before I utter another word.

Well I did try to say all in the same sentence that there were two Miss Ts and one Mrs T-H but before I could even say it they'd hung up. Which was a bit daft. They could at least have listened and might have discovered that although they got the name wrong they had got the right person. I wasn't being shirty. I was very politely just trying to clarify who they really wanted. I could even have explained that I used to be Mrs T if they had given me half a chance.

LOL .. my son always answered the phone like this .. no matter who ('cept Accrington Crematorium of course)

Come on Willow, you know this was really a sales call .. you were just winding them up saying no Mrs. T., but I am Mrs. T-H ...

They probably had only so much knowledge of the English language and were reading from a call-card; the fact that you have a double-barreled name probably upset their dialogue ... :D
