Yeah it's all changed now, both have to be CRB'ed. It's because of the contracts mainly. private hire do a lot of contracts with School children, so they all have to be checked.

I had to be crb checked and i was only stood on a reception with kids walking through to the sports hall etc

By the way did you know you should have the crb redone every 3 years - I found that out from work - there is no time limit on a crb but the powers that be say every 3 years a crb should be re done.

(yep, I'm an old reactionary fascist pig who has a bias against tie-dye, long hair, tattoos and piercings.......but been there and done that ;) )

This is the UK, prioritisation is given to those who can’t string a sentence together in English. There are lot’s of employment agencies these days, I would say they predominantly use immigrant workers. I struggle to see how these people meet the basic H&S standards e.g. How to evacuate the workplace in the event of a fire.

Neither alcohol nor drugs are screened in most instances of employment being engaged.

My husband has recently started a new job with an engineering company in the area he had to attend a medical at "Capita" medical services. At the medical he was screened for "street drugs" and had to inform them of anything that was being prescribed by his GP. The outome of this test proving positive would have meant that he would have had the offer of employment withdrawn straight away. This had happen very recently with one of the employees who had been working via an agency and had then been offered a permanent contract, he was instantly dismissed with no discussions.
I'm sure there are other employers out there that screen successful applicants.

My mate's hubby used to work for British Rail and he said that they had mandatory random testing for some of their employees.

I know the CRB is 3 yearly, I've just had mine done (again)...
