Not so long ago they said all the friends and families had been checked out, which I would've thought included their properties. I don't trust that family and I think they should be investigated. I think they've been wasting police time.

I hope so. I haven't really followed this news story but I think the family has always appeared to be hiding something, so I hope she'll get some sort of opportunity to speak without her parents there.

Why should I know they will? I've never had anything to do with child investigations. And I haven't seen any mention of social services. Can't interview a child without parent or social services there.

Missing Schoolgirl Shannon Matthews Found Alive |Sky News|UK News

From the article:

Quote:

She was discovered around a mile away at the home of a man who is part of her extended family, say Sky sources.

Quote:

The man is related to Shannon's stepfather Craig Meehan, according to Sky sources.

She will have to interviewed with Social Services, a guardian or parents present that is in line with Child Protection my guess is they will use a specially trained Police officer in a Family Unit with cctv to record all that is said.

Just hope that she is able to recover fully from the ordeal that she has been through.

Latest news says a 39yo male been arrested at the address

I'm guessing it's her father. I'm sure I saw something the other day where it said she lives with her stepfather. Her grandparents were claiming that Shannon had said she wanted to leave home but the mother denied it. I think she is one of 7 children with 6 different dads

I don't think its particularly relevant to mention that the children all have different fathers, and all the rest is just speculation. We can't really know for sure can we til she has said her own story :(

Thats what news is blazey 95% mith 5% fact, its only the next day that the real truth emerges, you only have to read the papers on a regular basis and you will see, little apology notices saying sorry:rolleyes:But its still great news that the youngster has been found alive and well

I don't care who is at fault, don't care what the papers or anybody else care to speculate about, but am very happy Shannon has been found. Safe and sound? we will find out in due course, we will also likely find out that, if somebody is to blame for hiding her, or anything else that (god forbid) may have happened, they will be treated leniently as per usual in this country.

Couldn't agree more, Garinda. Shannon Matthews had been missing since 19th Feb. I'm sure that it's rare to find a child alive after that length of time. They can't have been holding out much hope.

Brilliant news that she has been found. But there is something very fishy about what has gone on. Didn't think it would be normal practice for a child to have a Police Protection Order. Apparantly she has not been reunited with her family yet. Just hope they get to the bottom of this and that justice is done, which i doubt very much.

Me too Garinda ... will keep my yellow ribbon on there ' til there is some conclusion to the loss of this child.

As for Shannon, it's her that is important .. no matter what the reasons, only a child at the end of the day no matter what the family circumstances, and just so relieved she is alive and well. My daughter and grandaughter live not far away and saw all the police activity which scared grandaughter, so a selfish reason, to know that there is no 'nutcase' on the loose (well, is possibly, but one that is no threat to my family)

I don't think they were being snotty, they don't get much U.K. telly.

Most of the people who came out, to be filmed for the television companies, looked like they were having fun, cracking open the Pomagne, and burning the, now happily unwanted, missing posters.

It'd take more than a passport for me to breed with someone from yorkshire, so speak for yourself :p

It's nice that she was found, I assume that's why it is suspicious, because of the long time she was gone and not having been harmed, at least as far as anyone can see.

Maddie isn't going to be found, at least not alive. Nobody in their right mind could compare her case to this one. And if I'm just being pessimistic well so are most people including the authorities. I personally think that the state funded police should give up the search now and just let the McCanns carry on with their private detectives if they must.

Here you go again. Do you know something the rest of society doesn't?

With each passing day, the chances become slimmer, but until she is found, no one knows what has happened to her.

It's not unknown that missing children occassionally turn up alive, even after many years.

Very rarely though. They should've called off the search ages ago. They wouldn't be still searching if she'd gone missing in this country, not without good reason.

The chances that she is still alive are ridiculously slim.

Point is, it's nothing like this story and people are wrong to link it with this.

Hence I said the chances are getting slimmer, though has been seen, not just in the quoted Austrian case, but many others cases in America, it does occasionally happen that a missing child is found alive..

Personally I prefer to deal in facts.

I, or the rest of the world, doesn't know what has happened to Madeline McCann, and neither do you. Fact.

For you to post that 'Madeline McCann isn't going to be found, at least not alive', is a statement that is both crass, as well as wrong, because you don't know. Fact.

Well Thankfully shannon has been found alive and thankgod she is now in safe hands .
One thing i will agree with blazey is that imo there is more to that family than meets the eye, after all it was the stepfathers uncle who took her . but reports also state that shannon was seen earlier that day hanging around that flat which may suggest she wasnt dragged there but went freely.
There are alot of questions to be answered yet and i personally dont think that child should be sent home until there is an investigation into the family background or at least one of the stepfather.

Its bloody obvious something was going on. I suspect that when more facts emerge you will find that this kid ran away from home (as was initially reported) because of abuse and neglect.

She went to the only person who she felt she could trust - the least bad of a rotten family bunch - who sheltered her and then either panicked when the missing alert was sounded or just as likely, agreed to let her stay because she did not want to return home. It is interesting that when the cops did find her there was no evidence of her being bound nor has there been any reported suggestion of assault. No charges yet been made and the kid's mother has had only limited access to her. All very dodgy, don't you think?

West Ender 16-03-2008 15:25

Re: Shannon Matthews found alive

Any comment of mine, in this case, can't bear a lot of weight because, just like everyone else, I don't know all the facts. One thing niggles in my mind, though. The child disappeared on the way home from school, in school uniform, but she was wearing totally different clothes when found. Also neighbours are reported to have said they heard a child laughing in the flat.

Now for my own bit of mindless, possibly irrational prejudice. I never liked the look of the mother and I wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw her.

Re: Shannon Matthews found alive

If it was my child it wouldn't have been left in a hotel room by itself.

Also, if a foreign child went missing in this country, and many do, we wouldn't even make the effort to find it, it'd just get its name an a quick description shoved on the missing persons database like all the others.

Obviously I personally as a parent wouldn't want the search to just be called off, but in the eyes of the police the search for Madeleine has been going on far too long. They should just accept that.

Maybe if they didn't spend so long focusing on one child they might find others. So many people whinge about equality but where is the equality in that?

I agree panther, it has been sugested in the press this morning that the guy arrested has said that all the family knew where Shannon was and they got the idea for her to go missing when they saw how much money people donated when little Maddie went missing. If there is any truth in this it takes some real sick people to pull this stunt off.

If there is any truth in this it takes some real sick people to pull this stunt off.

OH MY GOD!!!

just reading the comments left on that link panther....found this rather interesting...

Just a wild guess, but I wonder if Donovan is more closely related to Shannon than we realise?

and this

Very odd situation, we are not being told the truth. Shannon was not abducted, big scam by family to cash in on missing girl story; that became apparant last week when comments were made about how much money had been pledged for Shannon compared to Madeline. Police need to get this out in the open now & reveal what they have found out through investigations & public need to be made aware what has gone on for last few weeks.

The Times today said that they believe from what Shannon has said that she WAS abducted, and there was an article saying she is also the new face of poverty in Britain.

Just a few weeks ago Shameless featured a storyline about the faked abduction of a child for financal gain.

Shameless » Channel 4

The truth's stranger than fiction, or is it the other way around?

Until we know what went on why speculate about something we dont know about. The police had to come out and issue a statement yesterday due to rumours. Its all speculation we dont know what happened so until it ends up in the papers or the news we wont.

I hope that isn't a real quote because that's a terrible grammatical error!

I watched the programme tonight, and found it all very sad, and for what it's worth believe the child's mother had no idea where her daughter was, that much was obvious.
