I like that The Beatles weren't resurrected at any point. For me, a big Beatles fan, it further encapsulates the enigma that is them and their music. Like, I love The Who's music, but they should've broke up when Moon died and even more so when John Entwistle died a few years ago. The tour de force that was The Who is now two weak old blokes who are losing their credibility because there's no decent new material. Likewise I believe The 'Stones should've given it up long ago because now they're just doing it for the money. I lost all respect for the Stones when they claimed all the royalties for The Verve's 'Bittersweet Symphony' back in the nineties. Money driven fools. They sold out completely :( |
Re: Are the beatles still as relevant as their heyday?
Once the next generation get into media and journalism management and positions of "power" and no longer have to put up with the early on-set alziemers reminiscences of aging baby boomers the hype about the Beatles and all the other 60s stuff will eventually just fade away and then the 60s sound will just be nostalgia, something featured on "all our yesterdays" like the big band sound listened to by earlier generations .

Oh yes, I remember that. I think poor old Peter Ilyich might have been revolving in his grave - especially as he didn't get any royalties. :D |
Re: Are the beatles still as relevant as their heyday?
well i was reading abotu rolling stone magazine and how it was critized for placing too much emphasis on the 60's70's stuff in their top 100 singles ever and the mag was generally aiming for that kinda music rather than lookin at music as a whole. it completely missed the launch of hip hop and heavy metal in its early yrs and it has re-reviewed alot of the early stuff inorder to balance it.
that i think is one of the biggest signs that slowly its all gonna b moving on and eventually ppl will talk of the white stripes etc just as much and give them their due |

Re: Are the beatles still as relevant as their heyday?
I saw the Beatles at King Georges, along with Gerry and the Pace Makers Cilla who were suppor artists to the late great Roy Orbison (as cashy reminded me in the music section the other week) what did I think of the Beatles live back then, absolute unadulterated CRAP. That still did not stop me from becoming a huge fan and have every L.P. they ever made, and most of them now on CD.
