Re: Un Moderated CHAT

I don't go in chat rooms because, I admit it, I can't keep up - they tend to go too fast for me - so I'll reserve judgement on what's gone on in this one.

I'm a member of 3 other discussion forums similar to this one and I've seen people resign/chuck in the towel/announce their departure/flounce out numerous times for various reasons. Why bother? If you get annoyed/fed up/disgusted etc. why not just stop posting? Is it to give others the chance to say, "Oh please don't go", or is it just in case nobody notices you've gone? ;)

I doubt AccyWeb will go into a decline if a few members stop posting. It's a good site with a lot of good personalities and some interesting viewpoints and the odd spectacular argument just makes it more interesting. :D

Lets not forget we have MP's, Councillors and members of the police force as members of this forum.........It only takes one to log in to the chatroom and who know's what will be the outcome?

Yes, stop replying, let it drop. It takes 2 (at least) to make an argument.

I was in the chat room for a short time last night, but it seems the contentious things were said after I left, so I cannot comment.
However, as I entered the first chat line I read was Blazey using the word s**g

It would be interesting to know if a record was kept of this particular chatroom activity....then we would know who was in the driving seat? or who said what?

Re: Un Moderated CHAT

There isn't any legal problems. If people are breaking the law (and nobody has from what I have seen) then its a problem for the authorities and that individual, sites like Accringtonweb are not directly responsible for their content because its user generated. They simply need to be able to remove it when necessary. Since chat is ongoing its not possible for the chat to be moderated anyway, hence Accringtonweb will not fall foul of anyone saying something they shouldn't.

I don't know if things have been said that I don't know about, but just because something is sick and not something you would approve of, doesn't mean its against the law, simply distasteful.

Some people like to talk about things others wouldn't dream of, some are more open than others etc., so I think its fine that some people join a separate room if they prefer to have less graphic discussions.

I think this shows the morality of the younger generation who accept swearing as the 'norm' if you use foul language in the chatroom is that to be accepted ...NO....would you choose to use foul language on the forum..NO...you would soon be shot down in flames....Is this to cover up the inner self....I wonder?

Re: Un Moderated CHAT

I don't think foul language is illegal. You hear plenty of it in the street outside. It isn't something I personally like but I don't think it would be breaking the law to use it in the chatroom. Oddly enough it is allowed in the over 18s but not on the open forum. Is the chatroom open to all ages?

Not sure if you're referring to me, but my post was directed at the legal aspects of the chat room since people were enquiring. I didn't approve or disapprove of anything said. I am of the younger generation, and I don't swear in either the chat room or the forum.

Use it to a policeman or a judge and you have got problems.

The chatroom appears to be packed to the rafters once again.

Others in this thread have posted about the law regarding chatrooms, in so much as it appears to be fairly muddled.

What's your big fascination with it, and why don't you post what you actually think the problem is?

Personally if I have a query re: the rules of this forum, a pm to one of the mods usually illicits a swift and satisfactory answer, and thus prevents me having to start a thread which creates a whole load of problems and upset, a bit like trolls do.

As far as Roy is concerned on this forum, he is the law.;)

Perhaps, if you had wanted an answer from a specific person you should have asked that specific person via a pm. However, as you asked it as a thread then everyone is entitled to input into the thread.

If you really didn't haven't the common sense to ask your question via pm'ing a moderator, perhaps your thread would have been better placed to illicit an answer, in the 'Feedback, Suggestions, and Help' section of the forum, rather than 'General Chat', which quite clearly states is for 'common sense and serious discusions'. Something this thread clearly isn't.

I was just pointing out that as such, your question was answered way back in the thread by Cyfr, and giving advice to anyone else who may have a question regarding this forum, and the most effective way of having a questioned answered.

For someone who was complaining of bullys the other night, typing in capitals is apparently quite rude on internet forums, it's considered SHOUTING!;)

Is it not blatantly obvious? The laws cover the same ground no matter if you say them on a message board, a chat room, a phone call, writing, or in person. The law is the law.

There are no 'special' laws for chat rooms. If you incite racial hatred in person you're breaking the law, if you do it in a chat room you're breaking the law. It's not against the law to swear with a kid near you in person, even if it is distasteful. Guess what? It's not against the law to do it in a chat room either.

It's also not against the law to do it in this forum, it is however against the forum rules, so I'd advise against it.

Roy's stated the chat rules, and I'm sure you can use your judgement to know whats within the law. Stay away from plotting terrorism and I'm sure you won't go much wrong.
