You probably have a point there mani, but I did read somewhere at the time that the SS were on the verge of taking her into care when she went missing. I've also seen today that her mother is talking about suing the police if she doesn't get her back soon, good luck she'll need it

There is something deeply disturbing about this whole affair. Social Services must have their reasons and I'm sure that the legalities of removing a child from her family will have been perfectly executed in such a public case. We'll just have to see what eventually comes to light, but I tend not to believe most of the drivel written in the Red Tops.

The whole thing has seemed highly suspicious to me from the start.

Lets hope it is all sorted out soon and she can get on with her life.

The Press have been put in a very difficult position due to the fact that they are NOT allowed to report care proceedings and to make matters worse the victim of a "kidnapping" if under-age should not be named nor should anything be said that might lead to her identification.

I think they will have probably been checking the computers in the first place to see if Shannon had been talking to anybody online. The end result may be the karma for the conditions the girl has to live in provided by what appears to be woeful parenting.

"TWO relatives of Shannon Matthews' stepdad, Craig Meehan, have been arrested in connection with her abduction.
West Yorkshire cops are holding Craig's mother, Alice Meehan, on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

They are also holding Amanda Hyett, his 25-year-old sister, on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A police spokesman said: "Detectives investigating the alleged abduction of a nine-year-old girl in Dewsbury in February, have this morning arrested two women in Dewsbury.

"A 25-year old has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and a 49-year-old on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

"They are being questioned at police stations in West Yorkshire."

Re: shannon mathew`s

I dont think Karen is involved, my heart goes out to her...
Latest news
"SHANNON Matthews’ mum was “staggered” yesterday after ANOTHER sensational twist in the saga over her daughter’s disappearance.

Traumatised Karen, 32, was left reeling again as the mother and sister of Shannon’s stepdad were arrested over suspected involvement in the girl’s kidnap.

Amanda Hyett, 25 – whose house is next door to Shannon’s family – was held with 49-year-old Alice Meehan. Her son Craig lived with Karen until HIS arrest earlier this week.

Mum-of-two Amanda, who also has a stepdaughter, was arrested on suspicion of assisting her uncle Mike Donovan. He is accused of abducting Shannon and holding her captive for 24 days.

Widow Alice – who Shannon, nine, called “Grandma” – was arrested and questioned on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The swoop followed allegations by Donovan during police interviews.

Cops had checked emails and phones to see if any of Shannon’s family or friends had contacted Donovan, 39.

The arrests were yet another hammer blow for Karen, who dumped 22-year-old Craig this week after his remand on child porn charges.

Karen was last night still on suicide watch at a police safe house.

A pal said: “She’s been told the latest news and is absolutely staggered.”

Craig’s arrest – which is not related to the Shannon case – came on the day Karen was briefly reunited with her daughter for the first time since her February 19 disappearance.

Shannon has been cared for by social services since cops found her in the base of a bed in Donovan’s flat.

Earlier this week, social services stepped in to look after three more of Karen’s children who normally live with the family in Dewsbury Moor, West Yorks. Her other three kids live with their fathers.

Alice and Amanda were arrested as they attended an appointment at Dewsbury police station yesterday.

Amanda was heavily involved in the huge hunt for Shannon and wore T-shirts appealing for help. News of her arrest was broken to hubby Neil by The Sun. The 36-year-old coach driver, away working in Spain, insisted: “She’s nothing to do with it.”

Karen has vowed to return home, despite death threats.

She has been warned vigilantes may target her semi over the charges made against ex-love Craig. But she insisted: “I won’t be driven out.”

Amanda and Alice were granted police bail last night."

OMG I will hold my hands up and say I was wrong with my thoughts on the story!

Karen: 'I knew where she was'

COPS have been granted an extra 12 hours to quiz the mother of Shannon Matthews.

Sobbing Karen Matthews allegedly confessed in a police car that she KNEW where her missing daughter was being held – from DAY ONE.

Karen, 32, had made emotional pleas for an abductor to return the nine-year-old throughout a massive 24-day hunt.
But last night she was being questioned on suspicion of perverting the course of justice – as neighbours who helped search for Shannon branded her “twisted”.

Panic
Detectives arrested Karen at 7.20pm on Sunday after she broke down in front of pals and her police family liaison officer.

She allegedly blurted out: “I knew where she was all the time.”

Karen has told cops the background lay in a plan to leave her partner of four years, supermarket fishmonger Craig Meehan, 22.
She claims the man accused of snatching Shannon – Craig’s uncle Michael Donovan, 39 – had offered her a place to live.

She had packed clothes but at the last minute “bottled out” and stayed put.

Police are now investigating whether at that point on February 19 Donovan had already picked up Shannon from school.

Panicking Karen reported she had gone missing on the way home – then watched in horror as the search escalated.

But detectives are ALSO probing claims that associates of the Matthews family tried to extract money from the Maddie McCann fund – and the possibility of a kidnap plan based on an episode of Channel 4 show Shameless.
Karen’s arrest came after two of her pals were driven by family liaison officer DC Christine Freeman to pick her up at a safe address.

In the car, her friends began quizzing her over inconsistencies in her story. One suddenly suggested she had known from the start where Shannon was.
Mum-of-seven Karen, of Dewsbury Moor, West Yorks, is alleged to have to have “nodded and said Yes”.

A source claimed: “She started shaking uncontrollably and crying. Her friend asked her what part was true.

“It’s alleged she said she had known where Shannon was right from Day One. It seems everything got out of control and she didn’t know how to stop it.”

DC Freeman pulled up and rang her bosses before driving Karen to Dewsbury police station. Yesterday she was being held at a police station in Wakefield.

Karen is said to have discussed moving in with Donovan at a family funeral. But she has denied gossip about an affair with him.

Police found Shannon on March 14, hidden in the base of a divan bed at the maisonette home of computer programmer Donovan in Batley Carr, a mile from her home.
Fury
Donovan is charged with abducting and falsely imprisoning her. He slit his wrists and took tablets on Sunday in a suicide bid while on remand.

Five members of Shannon’s family have now been arrested.

Karen dumped Meehan last week after he was charged with 11 child porn offences unconnected to Shannon.
Meehan’s sister, Amanda Hyett, 25, and his mother, Alice Meehan, 49, were also held in connection with the alleged kidnap.

Last night Karen’s arrest sparked fury in Dewsbury.

Farrah Johnson, who helped run the Find Shannon campaign, said: “I’m sick with anger. We think it’s unforgivable and twisted. She watched as our homes were ripped apart by search teams. We all helped look for Shannon.”
Caroline Meehan, 29, the sister of Craig Meehan and Amanda Hyett, said: “I have always maintained that Karen had something to do with this.

“There has been an image painted of her as innocent and vulnerable – but that’s not how it is. Now hopefully we will get the whole truth.”

But friend Petra Jamieson, 30, pledged to stand by Karen. She said: “Whatever she’s done, she’s done for a good reason. She’s not a bad person.”
Karen’s cousin, care home worker Vicky Saunders, said: “I’m shocked. I was with Karen when Shannon went missing, I helped. She loves all her kids, no matter what.”

In her 999 call reporting Shannon’s disappearance, tearful Karen told the operator she had been “everywhere I can think of, friends, family and everything”.

During the hunt she made a series of tearful appeals, pleading “Please let her go” and describing the youngster as “my little Princess”. Our source added: “It’s now suspected they were crocodile tears.”

A legal expert said yesterday: “Anyone who knew where Shannon was and stayed silent can expect to be prosecuted.”

West Yorks Police confirmed they had arrested a 32-year-old woman on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

More than £5million in taxpayers’ money was spent on Britain’s biggest ever missing person hunt when Shannon vanished.

Six hundred cops searched 3,000 properties.

Just a few weeks ago Shameless featured a storyline about the faked abduction of a child for financal gain.

The truth's stranger than fiction, or is it the other way around?

If this turns out to be true and the family did it to gain reward money they all want locking up. Lowlife scum. Shannon doesn't appear to be the brightest of kids and "didn't know she had been abducted " , well no wonder, she hadn't ! Did they really think she wouldn't say anything when eventually "found " ?

In this case I agree and credit was given to Sky for breaking the news.

I would hope the the police and other agencies in the UK respond to a missing child report quickly and with all the resources available at the time.

Re: shannon mathew`s

I’m having a poor attempt at having some real empathy with the child ( thought I was half decent at putting myself in another persons shoes too) I just cannot comprehend how she must be feeling. She’s most likely too young to contemplate the effects this will have on her future life. I imagine she is frightened when she thinks of the past, the present and the future. Then again she may feel some kind of relief, who knows.

Whatever the case, I hope she had a nice warm cuddle before bed tonight and gets all the support she needs from a new loving family ( should she not be returned to her own)

Sadly it would seem they are, her sister would appear to be more reliable and reputable than the rest of the family having been with the same bloke for 20 years and can name her children. She is a senior care assistant and is offering Shannon a home with them.
She is quoted as saying "It's hard to believe we are blood related,to be honest,I think she is deluded,I don't think she is all there."

Ok, thanks, found it.

Daily Star: Simply The Best 7 Days A Week :: News :: £100k op to hide most hated mum

It doesn't say who is saying this, no named source, just 'police' and 'experts'. Very shoddily hatched story.

How do they know what will happen to her until she is tried, and if found guilty, sentenced?

If true, that's ridiculous

Re: shannon mathew`s

If it is true (which I doubt) I hope that she gets a cheapo NHS job and ends up looking like Sylvester Stallone's mum - which would be an improvement

Re: shannon mathew`s

She shouldnt get it on the NHS. Why the hell should evil people like this get this preferential treatment!? What she has done and what she will have to deal with is her own problem, completely her own doing. She should have thought of that before being a nasty evil cow!!

MargaretR 14-04-2008 12:44

So you would rather a Harley Street chap did it then?

If it means it comes out her own pocket, thats how it should be done

Re: shannon mathew`s

That's disgusting if they do that. And heres me fighting for surgery (which is classed as cosmetic) on my stomach after having the twins but am not fighting it entirely for the cosmetic reasons, have medical reason for it too and am getting no-where. There's just no fairness in it at all

Articles | Shannon's neighbours in fraud probe - ITV News

Sadly there probably are honest, decent, hard working people on this estate, the trouble is finding them, as they seem to be in a minority.

As no other newspapers have featured the story, other than the Star, which barely qualifies as a newspaper, I think the story of Shannon's mother receiving plastic surgery is bunkum.

She's been charged with child neglect, and perverting the course of justice, but hasn't even been found guilty of any crime...yet.

I didnt really make that very clear. Thats what I meant. Why should the NHS pay for it.

I see that today Karen Matthews has been remanded in custody until this case comes to trial in November......that's a long time.

It is, and which makes a mockery of the report that she was going to be given plastic surgery and a new identity.

She might be a dim witted trollop, but until she is found guilty of any crime her safety should be ensured, if only to make sure she is fit and well enough to stand trial in November.

There's a lot of rubbish written about many high profile cases.

In this case especially you have to wonder about the intelligence of the person who has sold the story to the newspaper.

There was one story in last week's paper, which struck me as the pot calling the kettle black, told by the father of one of Karen's children.

He had a right good old go at Karen, saying all she did was lie on the settee, drinking beer, smoking fags and eating pies.

He said she didn't look after the kids properly, didn't buy nappies just taped carrier bags to the babies bums.

Then at the end he said he hasn't seen his son for 2 years but hopes to resume contact soon. :(

I have to wonder why he's not seen his son for 2 years and wonder if he is a fit person to go round slagging others off.....I bet he's just as bad.

By November the people on that estate will have found other gormless persons to direct a hate campaign against. That's the way they live - as in those tv soaps they use as models for their lives.

Cheque book journalism.:(

I read his interview online.

Quite agree, pot and kettle.

I hope somehow her other children are now being given a better start in life than these wastrels gave them.
