Organ Donor Law ?
 

Should it be changed in the light of this sad episode BBC News I always thought the closer the family connection the better match an organ would be, less chance of rejection.

If the decisions made by the medics were purely based on written procedures then the procedures need changing in my opinion.

I can't make my mind up on this one.....a very sad case indeed and I do have sympathy with the mother. However, I can understand that organs are allocated according to the waiting list.

I don't think we should be allowed to queue jump or where will it end?

I definitely think you should have the choice, if you have the choice to be a donor, you should have the choice to decide who you would like the organs (if need be) to go to members of your family 1st

A difficult one as Lilly says but does seem that the mother would have been a closer match. Then again people do donate kidneys to relatives in desperate need when they are alive. It is a very sad case and god forbid anything happens to the mother now who would the child have then??

its a sad,difficult one this, think theres summat about yer descision to donate yer organs, before ya croak? maybe our nurses could clarify.:confused:

Yes and the more I think about it the more I feel her wish to give a kidney to her mum should have been granted!!

its sad all round, if you or yours were top of the list n it matched n ya didn,t get it, how would you feel? theres no easy answer to me.

At the bottom of that link it says there is a taskforce due to report in the summer about it bb.

I think its sad but she hadnt signed the paperwork for making a living donation - but she had signed for the organ donor register.

But since the young woman had been asthmatic since birth, and her mother has had kidney failure for the past seven years, it's not as if they didn't have time to sort out the correct paperwork.

It is very sad, and I hope the mother receives her transplant very soon.

It's disgraceful if people are tearing up their donor cards because of this case.

Anything I leave behind when I pop my clogs is available for the most suitable recipient.

Who am I to pick and choose?

I'll leave that to the medical profession.

i think the donor scheme should be on an opt out basis instead of opt in....... we dont need the bodies we leave behind so why not let someone in need have them?

I do understand that it may be against some religious beliefs, in these cases the person should opt out..

How many ppl would be donors but havent signed up?

I don't think the law should change regarding organ donation. It IS a sad story but unfortunately the law couldn't change simply to accomodate situations like these which are few and far between. It just wouldn't work and would complicate things. Best left alone in my opinion.
