Agree totally but do they ever make things easy for the man on the street?? I remember the adverts not long ago telling people to "pick it up its your's" Why not just tell folk what they can claim?? Maybe that is to sensible:eek:

No doubt my money will help towards redecorating one of Brown's fat cat's second homes.
I AM FUMING - and to think I once voted labour!

What they're doing is terrible. Punishing the lowest income earners with 100% tax rises. Absolutely pathetic.

Before the '97 election, and fearing high taxation, Paul Daniels threatened to leave the country if Labour were elected to power. A statement which probably helped gain Labour quite a few votes.

Ten years later, rather than the feared high taxation for big earners, we have the reverse. London has the most billionaires in the world outside of Manhatten, and Russian Ogliarchs are queueing up to live in the U.K., with it's low rates of tax for the super rich.

On the otherhand, the lowest paid in the country, including many pensioners are worse off, and the measly promise of being able to claim some rebate really doesn't wash...well I bet it hasn't washed enough to convince the electorate come Thursday.

The sooner Brown goes the better.

A shambles.

I totally agree.....even with the promised compensation for people who have lost out. unless the 10% rate is restored....the flat rate remains at 20% and can (and no doubt will be used) at the drop of a hat when the mood suits these clowns.
It would not surprise me if compensation is paid out as a result of a means test?:confused::)

Re: General Election Tomorrow

Well its just barking mad.

They raise taxes on the worst off by 100%. Then theres a backlash and it finally dawns on them that taxing the lowest incomes isn't at all popular. So they give a half-hearted statement about giving the money back through some means unexplained.

Yes that's right, you make the tax code similar by scrapping the 10p tax band, then you refund then you promise to refund the money somehow, sometime in the future. This is certainly the way to make the tax system less complex. Excuse my sarcasm.

Have you conveniently forgotten the Poll Tax, which Thatcher intoduced, that targetted the poorest members of society too.

Labour have always marketed themselves on being the party of the under dog though, haven't they?

Not any more, what with this and the smoking ban, the ordinary working man has really been kicked in the teeth by this government lately.:(

She didn't target the poorest, she gave them concessions. Anyway the poll tax was removed, and I'm talking about what the Labour government are doing in the present day. Taxing the low income workers and making a mess of the u-turn.

The Thatcher Government at the time had the balls, because of public opinion, to replace the Poll Tax..........These prats think they can walk all over the people and the attitude of the current Government stinks.
Hopefully the people of the UK give them (The Government) a kick in the teeth on Thursday.
Pensions, tax, smoking ban, means testing, the list goes on and on.

Thing is though Thursday wont change the Government - seeing as its the LOCAL elections.

How is your local councillor going to change the tax rate when they are there for local issues.
