Kids fighting

I dont agree with this.

Shocking pictures which show tearful five-year-olds forced to fight in kickboxing contests | the Mail on Sunday

My nephew who has just turned 5 goes to Young Dragons which is karate for kids before the age of 7. Somehow i dont think he does this and if he did my niece (his mum) would have something to say.

Think i'll watch this on Thursday night. Just to see how bad it is. But like it says in the article - its the parents who are behind it. One of the parents is a father of a 5 year old girl who is fighting - and he says he sends her to classes because when she is 15 then she will be able to look after herself. Thats 10 years away - and theres self defence classes. She doesnt need to be fighting at the age of 5 - she should be playing with her dolls, or playing with her friends etc.

wow........ now the five year olds are being taught how to beat the other kids up.... are teachers going to get self defence classes as well for when these kids get mad at school......small children are not well known for being able to control their tempers!

Re: Kids fighting

I have heard that these classes are good for helping kids control their temper and outbursts and learning self discipline, and is used as a controlled way of a child "letting off steam" .As with all martial arts its not just about fighting.

*****This is what I have read somewhere and been told so dont shoot me if you disagree please*****

Although am not fully in agreeance with them learning something like that at such a young age. Could you just imagine me sending my 2 somewhere like that???? I would have sparring in the living room on a daily basis!!

Tyler did go to judo for a little while but they dont actually learn any fighting, just the self control( he didnt go for long he didnt like it) they mostly spend the lesson doing rolls and things. They can earn the belts and it gives them something to aim for and a sense of pride at achieveing it...

Emzy, i can remember us reading that when i was gunna sign tyler up for the one at the bottom of the street.

I think that it is discusting that this goes on, if parents think that this if ok for their kids then they should have their kids taken off them, it's bloodsport for kids and should be banned end of

Im all for karate and Judo... these are good for children but dont involve and fighting, its excercise whih is always good and for the point emzy has said and the ones in my previous post....Usually the children are taught not use thier skills unless they need to.. It is wrong to MAKE children fight.

A lot of the time is the Parents ego that makes the kids do these things, not that the kids themseles want to do it. Its the same with lots of things, the worst one is now Junior football. There was an item on Sky Spors News only last week hat said the number of games being abandoned due to prental interference has soared over the last few years

I'm keeping an open mind until I see the programme.

I agree that the idea of 2 five years olds fighting with the parents screaming 'encouragement' is hard to swallow, however we all know the competitiveness of parents even at a school sports day.

Marshall arts are all centred around self control and discipline. I disagree with violence, however in this day and age, when its not abnormal for teenagers to carry knives (and worse) I would like to think that my son will be able to defend himself and so marshall arts is something I have considered for him

This has been allover the news and it doesn't appear to be about learning self-defence to me, it just seems to be aggressive parents trying too force their kids into doing something they don't want to do. Will watch the programme but can't see it changing my mind.

Its just dog fighting but with kids instead of dogs. Its disgusting. I have to admit i have considered sending my little lad to some form of martial arts training (when he is older obviously lol), but purely on the belief that in this day and age you need to be able to protect yourself. But id never encourage him to fight, and any parent who would doesnt deserve kids imo.

An excellent example of why teachers deserve a pay increase
