Go vote!

Whichever candidate you want to support, go vote! It counts even more in local elections with low turnout, especially since many of the wards are marginal! Only takes you a few minutes, and gives you the legitimacy to complain all year round! :D

Only 1/3 of the wards are up for election so not everybody, you should have received a polling card if you're in one of those wards

I don't think we live in the same ward, otherwise we could have come to some agreement like M.P.'s do at Common's votes, where they both agree not to attend, and so cancel each other out.

But could you have trusted me not to sneak in to mark my ballot paper, as I intend to do later?:D

No, they just know there are a lot of stupid people about, for example, a year ago I lived on Holland St and always had to go to the annex of the church next to antley garage, I now live in a different ward, (though only about 3 streets away), so when I got my card through it said such and such church b'burn rd, I automatically went to the church I had been used to voting at, no said the guy in charge you need to go to the elim church on b'burn rd, not this one.

O.K. I had a clue b'burn rd, but I had no idea there was another church on b'burn rd result? I walked straight past a terraced house with POLLING STATION signs all over it and ended up in the railway, (I'll vote for John Smith's anytime), managed to find it on the way back though, it wasn't as exciting, I must have missed last orders in there. ;)

Yes I voted - it's my right to do so, people fought for that right and so it would take a very rare situation for me to choose not to vote!

As for who I voted for - well, I'm not telling but contrary to popular belief it has been a very difficult choice for me this year.

Well Neil its each to his/her own, but from the statement the ward is Spring Hill, and its quite a big ward and would take some canvssing especially with the weather we have been having

I told him they'd be one vote down because of you.:D

I haven't had a vote this time.
Perhaps it's just as well, because although I am a lifelong socialist, and would love to see a local labour council again, I feel that a landslide tory vote would urge the labour party to get rid of Gordo.

I just waltzed straight past him, you know you don't have to tell the people outside the room who you are - they're checking voters so they know who to knock up later.

It's true, you don't have to give your number to the parties counting who turns up, but I didn't want them knocking on my door at ten to ten, knowing I as a party loyalist hadn't yet voted.:D

I was disappointed I did not have the opportunity these elections for not voting for Janet Storey (C) this time. I think it's sometimes easy to think that your vote doesn't really count.

What brought it home to me that it does, was the U.S. election in 2000.

Millions of Americans had voted, and Bush or Gore's hope of being the most important elected politican in the world, all came down to a handfull of votes in Florida.

Every vote counts.

At least going along and spoiling your paper would have been more productive than nothing at all.
And to say you don't agree with any of the policies of either party is a bit of a sweeping statement.

i missed the conservative leaflet somehow - but the labour one was really gunning for them. this campaign really did turn personal and nasty. i'm not joking when i say windows were broken of opposition supporters and some of the candidates were bad mouthing the others no end.

where are they counting the votes and where are they going to b announced? can the public go in for the results?

I predict a bit of a slaughter, and the seeds will be planted tonight to get Brown out before the next election.

If you ladies had a problem with other ladies not voting why did you not react to the first lady who said she wasn't voting?? You are trying to bully Yolanda and I hope she can rise above it go on Yolanda. If you look back through the thread Flashy was the first one who said she wasn't voting(not that anything to do with anybody else who votes or not). Sorry Flashy if I got you involved but this is getting beyond a joke.

Gayle and Katex, im not bothered about your comments at all, open forum this is, you didnt get wht i was trying to say, i didnt go to vote cuz i never do never have done, the reason cuz i dont know why or for who im voting for, i dont have to explain myself to anyone so there you are, i dont get offended by little things like that, like i said, voting is free you dont have to do it if you dont want to.

Or by the way, i didnt reply earlier cuz i never realised the amount of replys i was getting over one thing i said.(thanks for the pm katex and dont worry )

Lindsay i DID go down, i gave in my card, got the ballot paper then ripped it up and gave it them back OK, so stop shooting your mouth off before you know the facts AGAIN, seems you are getting quite good at that recently arent you

This is absurd, like i said, voting is free and u dont have to vote, why does people keep on and on about it, we are all adults and we do what we want, vote or not vote

dont worry about it Bernie, i totally agree with what you are saying, i didnt vote, so why not have a go at me just as Lindsay did? its a free country, leave Yolanda alone, she can do what she wants, vote for who she wants, if she chooses not to vote for anyone as i did then thats upto her

Re: Go vote!

I didnt vote either.

Who wants to shoot me??

I've no excuse, have been busy but could have gone. Why didnt I vote? In the locals I dont. The general, I will be there. The only reason I was tempted was to put in a protest vote against our present Government.

Think its amusing though, how this political thread has no political arguments, just a lot of b*tching between individuals, and seemingly mild posts being taken to heart. Have i missed the school bell yet?

Re: Go vote!

Goodness me, Yolanda, sorry didn't mean to cause offence but to be honest I don't think I did with you did I?

I do believe everyone should vote, it's their right! However, I wasn't picking on you for not voting, simply that work in itself shouldn't be your excuse. If you don't vote, then say you don't vote, not got a problem with it but what I do have a problem with is someone, and we all know who that is, trying to make a problem when there isn't one!

As for Flashytart - excellent thing you did, ripping your voting paper up - I was almost about to do that myself but at the last minute chickened out. I agree that 'none of the above' should be a box on the ballot paper.

garinda 02-05-2008 08:57

Re: Go vote!

Although personally I have always voted, unless the law is changed, we also have the right not to vote.

A low turn out also sends a message to our politicans.

i went down with my dad yesterday at 8.30 am neither of us had any intentions of voting for anyone knowing who was up for election, like i said, i gave in my card, got the ballot paper then ripped it up and gave it back to the two women who handed it to me, i must say that their face was a picture, i dont think they quite knew what to do with the ballot paper, all the bitching and bickering that has come to light through this thread is so pathetic, who gives anyone the right to dictate to anyone else? especially when they dont know the facts. As for 'none of the above' being a box, no, i would just have liked a third choice, why should i be made or expected to vote for EITHER Labour or Conservative?

Well flashy as you know I've like you did yesterday, in fact it made me smile:D, But I would have gone into the booth and writen something accross the paper, B******s maybe, then at least it would have made it to the count, not sure if ripping it up does or not, but at least you made a point and I applaud you for that

We got a ripped one at one of the Hull counts :) Ripped, scribbled on, whatever, it still counts as a vote I think because you took the effort to go there and do it.

if i voted for labour Cyfr that would have taken a vote off the conservatives, if i had voted for conservatives it would have taken a vote off labour, as i voted for neither, neither lost or gained a vote (i'm sure you know what i mean)

So now I can't win whatever I say.

I apologised for possibly having a go at you when I wasn't. I didn't make a big deal about it but I flippin well will now.

It wasn't me who kept dragging it up - it was someone else who appeared to want to make an argument with me and almost called me a racist for me picking up on something you said! My comment to you was fairly innocuous and not having a go at you at all. I realise you don't care what I think and I completely accept that but someone wanted to make us have an argument and it looks like he's succeeded!

So now that is 'end of story'.

I LOVE Accyweb!

For only here could a casual remark by a member about not voting lead to a full-blown row, complete with dark mutterings about "bullying" and "racism".

Classic stuff!

Who needs soaps when you've got Accyweb? :D

Take a look at this earlier post of yours and if you aren't implying that we're racist towards Yolanda because she's Spanish what exactly are you trying to say!!!

Gayle, no point in trying to explain, we know you're not racist and it desperate measures when someone tries to accuse you of being
