22,000 dead - 41,000 Missing in Burma
 

I feel very sad for the people of Burma.
My Father was killed there in 1944.
I had a Burmese girlfriend in my early twenties who was the most gentle and considerate girl I think I ever met (My wife knows and understands)
I sincerely hope the the Government of Burma allow Aid Agencies to enter the country to sort this mess out.

Im sure Ive heard somewhere today that all the trouble there has been there has been a considerable amount of police/military on the streets,
But for the disater only a thousand have been allowed to help..
will check but if thats the case its wrong imo!!

This puts the ruling military in a bind .... not that I'm sympathetic with them .... I think that there is some sort of referendum coming up on a new constitution ... they have to act in this disaster, even if they don't want to break down and allow outsided help. They are really caught between a rock and a hard place. I hope for once that they act for the benefit of the people.

dont get me started on how we will proabably end up with even more people shaking collection tins in our faces for them or valuable TV airtime wasted on stupid appeals which will probbaly interfere with my TV shows

I feel sorry for the ordinary people in Burma, they are very oppressed and have been for years. It is only when things like this happen that you realise just how luck we are in this country, we certainly don't have to worry about weather like this over here, thank heavens

I cannot comprehend the size of this natural disaster, so many wasted lives. hope as much aid gets through to the country as possible.:(

Every time I watch the News it seems the estimated death total goes up, the're now saying it could be over a 100,000, as I've said before we don't know we're born in this country, weather wise anyway

Australia $2.8m

Why cant the burmese government let the aid workers in. They have the experience of what to do after an event like this. They know how to get things moving etc they know what the people need. So why not let foreign aid workers in.

Oh come on cashy you always have to make allowances for Liberals, they don't live in the real world. the thing that annoys me more than anything is that people from other countries are prepared to help, yet the Bermes Government won't let them in saying they will take it of them at the boarder and will distribute the supplies themselves, what a load of rubbish, this must be a new low in even this countries murky past:(

The official death toll is 22.980. The propoganda estimate from America is 100,000. :rolleyes:

I wasn't suggesting you were in America. The Burmese state say 22,980 are dead. The UN says ESTIMATED 100,000 dead. Hope that clarifies it :)

Just look at the Fat Peacock in this thread and look further down the page at the faces of the ordinary Burmese people........I can't post them on here....I'm told it is wrong to do so.
In this version it states the death toll is confirmed at 23,000 and expected to rise to 100,000..............Still a disgusting state of affairs?

The annoying thing is that Burma TV is showing everyhing as being delt with by the army saying how many blankets and the like being distributed, and that things are okay. They're not showing all the bodies floating in the water and lying on the river banks:eek:
