Well it looks like I know more than you then in the battle between the local Conservatives and Tory H.Q. in London.;)

As for Peter, shame really. He could have made the history books, as I don't think anyones been defeated standing for the same seat three times.:D

I don't think anyone thinks Hyndburn would be a walkover.

Yes you must be, if you think 'third time lucky' Peter Britcliffe would be the people's choice as our M.P.,no matter how badly the government were doing at Westminster.

As for Peter not standing he told me a long time ago that he has no intention of going for nation politics again

Labour party members choose who they want to stand as their representative. In fact Greg has had to go through the selection process every time - just as anyone who wants to be a local councillor. London has no say on who we pick - its up to the local members.

think your being a bit ingenious using Greg Pope as an example, otherwise how do you explain the "Hampstead" mafia having 'safe' Labour seats for life, in rust belt (ex industrial areas) constituancys sometimes hundred of miles from their origins.
I would think it a bit more honest to say that in safe Tory or a swing constituancy (Hyndburn) there is a bit less central committe 'nudge nudge wink wink ' in the selection process .

To be fair London can remove anyone they wish so I wouldn't go so far as saying that!

I was going to answer that but the previous post have done that or me, Labour do foist candidates on target seats, a glaring example was when they installed a Tory defector in Warrington, I think, it was somewhere in that neck of the woods. There was a big hoohaa in the national media because the constituency party wanted a local councillor as their candidate, but were over ruled by the national executive.

The new £2.7billion borrowing Darling has had to make to fix Browns mistake still manages to miss out over a million people whom still lose under the 10p tax debacle.

I wonder if Greg Pope will keep up the pressure?

You can safely assume that Greg and the rest of the rebels will be keeping their gobs shut until after the C & N bye-election. Once that result is declared they will be getting their calculators out and on the basis that their maths is somewhat better than messrs Brown and Darling, will be calculating just how safe their seats are. The fun will no doubt begin again.

Your next poll should read "How long do you now think Gordon's got?"
