The code of conduct for drivers does not change overnight.

Why shouldnt the code of conduct change overnight? The routes did and not for the better!!

The nowcards are chipped and are read by a reader on the bus. When you get your ticket the number of your pass is on the ticket. When the reader is not working which is quite often especially on the manchester one - the ticket doesnt have your number on but he asks me if im disabled and when you get the ticket it says disabled.

If the bus driver was so worried about letting the old dear on without her card why didn't he offer to pay her fare for her.......It's what I would have done......by the way Mick good on you, always knew you had it in you :)

dont be stupid they can bend the rules if need be.

Sorry Mick, but Flashytart is quite right! We have a school run going to Bowlands school and the regular driver knows all 40 odd of the kids that get on his coach. He is also aware that every one of them has a pass and that he doesn't have to worry about a float as he takes no money. Naturally, he doesn't insist on seeing all their passes.

Last week an Inspector got on and 5 of the students did not have their passes with them. They were made to borrow from their friends to pay the fare or get off the bus.
The driver was warned that in future he must take similar action unless he wants to be implicated in fraudulent activities.

This is the kind of pressure that drivers are put under. Don't blame the drivers, its the system at fault......

A lot of bus drivers dont carry much money either - maybe enough for a brew when its the turn around etc. That way they dont get it mixed up with the bus company's money.

Got plenty of money have you lynx? Bus drivers are on quite a low wage and probably has a family at home to support. Just two "lost" cards a day at £1-50 would cost him £15-00 per week.

Why should he subsidise customers that have misplaced their card? Why should he risk his livelihood by "bending the rules?" Who on the accyweb would pay me full time wages should I be sacked for being nice to the elderly? (Actually I do on the rare occasions that I am on service but that is my decision and I am aware of the risks involved, also, my job as a coach driver does not commit me to service work only)
