town and country planing gone mad

a lady in denton manchester faces a heavy fine, she found a cat and put up posters to find the owner, but the town and country planing,(control of advertisements said she should have given them 28 days notice,

Quite funny really Tosh, however, can't have everyone sticking notices around our Boroughs at will.

Doubt whether this will lady will get fined at the end of the day; not set in stone of course...

No, Cashy .. planning !!.. can't have every 'Tom, Dick and Harry' sticking posters everywhere !! All about keeping a district respectable .... etc., etc., etc. Just because is about a lady losing her cat (sad, I know and pulls at the heart strings) doesn't negate the fact that she shouldn't have done this !! The 'System' is working .. fact.

Don't know what type of poster you would have objection to.. but could be advert from anything from 'Gay Rights' >> 'Immigration problems' stuck on your garden wall/lampost. Would you feel the same ??

Don't be ridiculous Andrewb .. not about Politics .. just common sense .. !!!

She will probably not get fined at the end of the day, due to the context of her posts (sob, sob).... however, has to be noted as not acceptable as would encourage more postings in not so emotive subjects. :(

What about when the police put up a poster asking for witnesses to a crime or accident?

It is obvious we cant have people going round being sociably responsible, helpful and trying to help their neighbours. What is the world coming to?

Not sure Polly, but sure there is some law that by-passes Planning Permission here. Do they pin on trees though .. ?

What about When the council when they put up notices (often on lanp posts) about planning applications?
What about perspective councillors when they put up posters?

One law for them sand one for us?

I agree with Katex.

We can't have people pinning posters up willy nilly no matter what those posters may be concerning.

I don't see why she couldn't just advertise like everyone else. If everybody stuck up posters about things wherever they wanted it'd be a nightmare really wouldn't it.

They will have probably given themselves 28 days notice.

Does the Telegraph still offer free ads for items found? They used to.

Not sure, but what about advertising it in a pet shop or something? And newsagents generally let you put ad's in the window.

Think councils probably, are obliged by law, to do this to let people publicly know what is going on in an area.

Probably some prespective councillors notices are illegal if in public place, other than windows, etc. Can't recall any being on public property.

At the end of the day all fly posting is illegal.

Still disagree Bernie .. lots of shops, etc., will be willing to post notices re. the loss of this cat .. but to stick willy nilly in the streets, lamposts, trees, etc., is still irresponsible. As stated before, where would it end ???

Good on you Katex.

Talking sense as usual. :alright:

It is just another way for the council to get money out of somebody who was trying to be helpful. There were notices on all the lamp posts about planning application for Cannon Street Church conversion, why can they do it and nobody else? If It is anything like Accrington they would be better off using the resources to stop people parking on pavements.

They've probably given the 28 days of notification of posting Bernie ... :D (and passed it themselves ..LOL) Have noticed a gap between Planning Applications and the notices to be honest .. could be wrong.

Don't actually think the Council involved in this .. will have to check back .. some advertising thingy ...

Think will probably be in here somewhere..

So what about those advertising signs on roundabouts ( the one near to the Arndale has them and also the one near the Dunkenhalgh? Makes you wonder if they are legal though the council sells them!!
Now although I see the marketing potential - not to mention the revenue ability for HBC- I would argue that they are a traffic danger and likely to cause an accident far more than some notice on a tree for a lost cat.

A cat came walking into our house the other day and kept tripping me up in the kitchen, so I booted it back out of the door. It was really horrible, growled at me and everything and tried to scratch me every time I moved (before I kicked it :p)

Well said Cashy sometimes think we are on the wrong site these days, always thought the majority on Accyweb were there as friends(or like minded folk). Just hope I don't commit some terrible crime or I will be doomed:eek:

I don't think anyone is thinking any less of you as a friend for having an opposing view, it's just that the law is there for a reason, and if we allowed people to get away with things just because they didn't know the law, or it was in good faith, some lawyer will come along and use the exact same reasonings to get a real criminal off the hook, so it's better to keep to the law rather than taking risks with letting people get away with things.

Councillors have to abide by the law like anybody else, most posters are in private windows, if you want to put posters up in say fields you have to get permission from the land owner, fly posting is a no no

disagree to that point, all it needed was a bit of disrection, same as traffic cops sometimes use when they stop you.;)

We put up posters on Lamposts through the village for the Barrowford Show but to do this we have to seek permission from the Council and then they are allowed to go up Seven Days prior to the Event, Banners are displayed courtesy of our local landowners and posters are displayed in the village shops and pubs from about a month before and it works:)

Gosh, Cashy, you made me sound heartless ... had every sympathy with the kind deed this lady tried to do, however, seems the authorities did address in a light way :-

Mearly asked her through an answering machine message to take them down.
