anyone taken part in a 'new' drug trial
My cardiologist who I have full confidence in (but who's probably getting a kickback) asked if I was interested in taking part in a 'new' heart medication blind trial (wont be told if I'm on the stuff or a placebo), did one a few years back for a 'new' super heart drug (got a phone call at work to stop taking it with immediate effect ).
How do other Accy-web users feel about being used as human guinea pigs ? , personally I have no objection , if it works , good , if it doesnt ...oh well , sure the stuff has been well tested on rats and chimps, with no serious side effects , and probably in some third world country and now they want to test the stuff on folks with "western/European" lifestyles. I just have a problem with the drug companies whilst doing noble works in finding new cures and stuff, have some of their priorities screwed up , they make Billions with a B on stuff like Viagra ,yet expect folks to volunteer (unpaid) for medications which in my mind are more important . What do you think , should human guniea pigs recieve some recompense from the drug companies or not ? , note, volunteering for partaking in a trial means signing reams and reams of paperwork absolving the manufacturer of any responsibility . p.s. I'm not a skinflint looking for money , just the fact that these Drug companies profits are outrageous to my way of thinking . Anyone care to comment ....... also why don't new paragraph indents work ? |

What was the Drug you where testing?
i did one with the new all singing all dancing stents these are to open the arteries up the new ones are coated in slow release drugs anti coagulant and blood thinning drugs they where testing i got 3 of them at a cost of £2000 each and i am still here |

I was in a bad state around 3yrs ago..2 persons came to my bed and told me they had a new drug that may or may not save me.. they said they would try it out on 3 patients, one by jab, one by mouth and one by drip, I told them I would be happy to take the drug but only by drip..they mumbled and grumbled but I took it by drip but still don't know the outcome.. no one told me, but to be honest I would have taken anything.
I did hear from a doc that there is a new drug that gets you off warfarin.. but don't know the facts |

not being a killjoy steeljack, but was a bad case of this approx 2 yrs back over here, some of the trialists were in a real bad way, (someone may remember) i would think long n hard if yer a fit person, the up side - ya will be able to afford yer Tina concert.:D;)

I was once the first person to be put on an asthma drug in this area some years ago, was on it about two years but didn't do much good, I've even forgotten the name, but it was in a yellow and brown inhaler:confused:

Being a YOP, someone who was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease under forty, hence Young Onset Parkinson's, is quite rare, and I'm often asked to trial new drugs.
I really don't mind, in the hope it could help me as well as research. Some of the side effects have been horrendous, hallucinations, hearing voices, projectile vomiting. Pretty much what happens after a good night at an Accy Web meet.:D I recently trialed a new drug patch. Again I had to stop when the side effects became too bad, though I did make them laugh when my biggest complaint was that it was just too fiddly for people with Parkinson's, as it involved opening too tiny foil envelopes, and peeling back the plaster, a bit hard to do when your fingers don't do what you want them to do.:D |

I get paracetemol for pain and Zantak for acid reflux - neither have side effects, and can be bought 'over the counter'
Any fancier drugs I have been given have had side effects and so I can't take them. Some people are more prone to get side effects than others, and when I see the potential for damage to other internal organs from prescription drugs, in some ways I am thankful that I can survive without them. When I tell my doc that paracetemol doesn't relieve pain, he says 'try whisky'. When I tell him I spend half my life asleep, he says 'drink lots of coffee'. I just try to improve my quality of life using herbal remedies. They don't come free on NHS, but I know that they won't kill me off, (if taken in recommended dosages) |

What if the ‘new’ drug isn’t as effective as your old one? Or worse still doesn’t do anything and you get very ill or even snuff it? Apart from all that, if the drug companies want to trial a new drug on humans they should pay them AND if the trial goes wrong, fork out substantial pre-determined damages. |

No I would never do any trial like this, I am quite lucky really and don't use any medication
It is obviously good for research, but I would not want to put myself forward for this |
