Another Rubbish thread

Read about this in the paper this morning, Rubbish bins may soon be emptied once a month - Mirror mumbled to myself, cheeky beggars, what do we pay our council tax for, what the hell will the binmen do with all their free time etc.

Thought, I would stick it on here. Whilst Googling for the article, I came across this, Council asks residents to empty their own, because they are too heavy for binmen - Mail Online …nowt like bare faced cheek is there.

Now I always thought we were against monopoloies in this country...bad for consumer, competetion etc.. And yet I cant opt out of aspects of my council tax ? And complaining ...forget it. Great Service.

We already separate everything for them to make a fortune recycling, and take the bin to a convenient place for them to collect, and now have to keep the weight down to a minimum, might as well take it to the bloody tip for them! Then again, they will probably have us putting it all in various storage bins for them, I for one will need a bigger bin if this is the plan, then of course it will be too heavy for the wimps!

was a story in last sats mail, about a family who had their bin left cos it was too heavy, the men had to be able to move it with 2 fingers the council said, or the automatic lifter would break. never heard so much crap in my life, so long as its filled with household rubbish,as this was, it aint the bloody householders fault if equipment can't lift it.

I reckon a wheelie bin filled with sand would weigh round about the 250kg mark, those lifters look fairly meaty to me, so normal rubbish shouldn’t be an issue.

It has historically been a manual labouring job, I assume it is still classed as that. If folk can’t do the job, best they clock out.

I watched the bin crew at work today, and one of the team was an attractive blonde female. I suppose applicants have to prove that they are physically capable of the tasks before they are appointed. I know, as an O.A.P. I sometimes struggle getting my bin over the steep back garden step.

But what have they got to prove? If it can't be moved with two fingers the bin is considered a danger as they might hurt their backs:confused: H&S gone mad

Sorry to mention Spain...which some members take exception to but here goes.
There are five large containers at the collection point for rubbish along with two for paper and one for glass.
The large containers are emptied every day and the other ones when they are full.
All rubbish that is generated in the household is placed in a plastic bag, tied and disposed of every day into the large containers.
Non of the containers have ever been set fire to or vandalised as far as I am aware.
I too am an OAP, luckily I have got my health, but there is no problem.
You don't have the problem of someone stealing your bins or taking them out in the street....carry a plastic bag to your bin...dump it...gone.
There used to be a well known saying for the Army Medical which went, 'Breath on this glass, if it steams up your in'.
Could this be the criteria for getting a job on the bins in the UK?

I arranged for them to come and pick the bin up from my back door - its called the assisted scheme. If anyone has problems dragging the bin round - disabled, pensioner then instead of you dragging it out to the front door the binmen will pick it up at your back door and empty it and then bring it back.

I’d like to know who is actually instigating all this H&S nonsense. Is it the employer or the employee…perhaps a case of both when needs suit.

Where do you find out about it??
