amazing how you can suddenly find respect for someone that you thought you would hate

Watching his program and I though I'd hate him. OK, he's pretentious but I actually agree with almost everything he has said tonight

Rabbit - yum
Pork belly - cheap and delicious
fish pie - yep
rhubarb - I'm with you
Fish and chips in Scarborough - delicious and romantic.

proper food irrespective of how much it costs and none of this it has to be organic expensive crap.

It also surprised me to know that 7 out of 8 native pig breeds are in danger of extinction.

get buying that piggy!!!!!

its about food, UK centric food but generally about how we no longer use good old fashioned foods

scarborough is romantic,

2 and a half months ago I was there with Julie and Siobhan, walking on the beach(which was very clean), donkey rides, food in a number of VERY nice(cheap) restaurants, putting 2p's in 2p sweepers and generally having a lovely family time, if you can't make it romantic then your with the wrong person or you aren't romantic full stop. Too many people thnk you can only holiday abroad nowadays. Romance is about being with the person(s) you love and enjoying teh simple things in life, food, family, and unstressed time together.

I couldn't agree more about enjoying the simple things and being with people you love.

Apart from our honeymoon 9 years ago we have never holidayed abroad so I know what a good family time can be had in our own country.

You could make picking up dog poo romantic if that's what floats your boat and you're with the right person etc. :rolleyes::D

I would use many adjectives to describe fish and chips in Scarborough but I wouldn't say it's romantic for me that's all.

If that's what does it for you though good on you. You sound like a lovely family man. Your wife could do a lot worse. :p:D

What's he saying that TV chefs haven't already said? Fish pie, fish and chips - hasn't Rick Stein been promoting this kind of thing for years? Pork belly and rabbit - Gary Rhodes has been pushing local produce such as this on a regular basis. Rhubarb? Virtually every chef is pushing rhubarb dishes at the moment.

To me this programme is yet another lazy ITV effort that is merely going with the popular flow and it's nothing to get excited about.

I didn't say its original, just that its good to hear them actually using teh cheap cuts that people have forgotten about.

How many people on here have bought pork belly in teh last 6 months? I can hold my hand up but how many others.....

the same with rabbit, you can't even buy it in accy any more you have to go to Bury for it

I like pheasant. See a load of them over the trof of bowland - you have to be careful to clip them just right, otherwise, you end up running them over and you cant do much with that

a nice stew? it should be nicely tenderised if its been squashed! :D

I must admit to having been hit a couple of times whilst 'making progress' on my bike through teh Trough, never stopped and picked it up though!

I was actually joking - I've never hit one (though that, on occasion, has not been for lack of trying :D )

You can get plenty of good game meat in Clitheroe though unfortunately its expensive - cant beat a bit of pan-fried medalions of pheasant in port and cranberry :) - I like to put them with honey roasted parsnips - add a bit of rosemary to them as well and you're all set.

I was once given a pheasant which had been killed by a car.
The bird appeared intact, and I thought 'no gunshot to get out - good'
BUT - when gutting it I found that its internal organs were ruptured and the innards were putrifying jelly.
The smell was horrendous - Hughie
It went straight in the bin.

game is not that expensive because you don't need much of it. i.e. you can eat a 10 oz steak quite easily but 10 oz of pheasant is not teh same.

Willow, it is lovely, sort of Blackpool without the tat and drunks :D
