The Height Of Insensitivity!!

My brother and his wife have been visiting Mum this weekend and we got to talking about the hassle I had with my internet connection after Ian died. Or should I say the people on Oranges non-helpline asking to speak to the account holder even though they had been informed of his demise.
It transpires that a friend of theirs lost her husband in December and in March a letter was delivered from his bank(Barclays) addressed to him with the word "DECEASED" in brackets. How to these people think?? It is inevitable when someone dies that you are going to get mail addressed to them but to actually address a letter in this way is a disgrace. By the way she did complain and got some flowers!!!

There is too much computer generated mail nowadays
Computers don't have any regard for human emotion

No, the bank clerk will have typed deceased into the account details when the bank was informed and then a mailshot will have been done at some later date (where no human actually sees the letters) and the letter will have been automatically generated. It wouldn't surprise me if the letter started "Dear Mr Deceased"

Dint know it worked that way Willow, if that is the case then there has to be a bit more human intervention when dealing with the public

I agree. There is far too much 'automatedness' these days. In the olden days when I worked there it was all hands on and we knew the customers and their account numbers and had time to sort things out for them personally. Now it's all automatic this and computer generated that. No profit in the personal touch.

Thats terrible:(
It's bad enough dealing with a loss without something like that triggering emotions.
Progress isn't all its cracked up to be at times.

Re: The Height Of Insensitivity!!

But who has programmed the computer??? Surely there is a no mail option for times like this!!! So the computer is doing what a human has told it???

Re: The Height Of Insensitivity!!

Yes there should be a 'no mail shots' flag on the account but sometimes these things slip through. That would not have happened in the olden days when everything was done by a human being throughout.
