Yesterday my daughter had mail for next door on both sides and for somebody who used to live in her house 9 years ago.
She has notified the post office on numerous occasions that they no longer live there.
I think the reason she gets her neighbours mail is because they all have steep drives!

Equally cashman, just because shakermaker’s Postie was not on the ball it doesn’t mean everyone’s is not on the ball.

My lifetime experience of receiving mail through my door suggests that the majority of postmen and postwomen do a sterling job in all weathers. There will always be some rogues and lazy people and you get that in any group but in the main our postal service is very good.

All you people moaning about mail deliveries would have something to moan about if you had to collect your own from the Post Office.

It wouldn’t surprise me to discover that some ‘suit’ in Royal Mail hasn’t already considered ‘collect your own’ as a means of increasing their profits and a bonus for the ‘suit’. The only thing preventing such a move is finding a suitable ‘downtown’ premises where the PO Boxes could be placed and figuring out how to sack thousands of postmen and women without starting a civil war.

the suits are equally as useless, when i moved to blackpool in early 90s, being a trade union branch sec at the time, i PAID the post office to redirect my mail, cos obviously some of it would be very important, for the next 12 months minimum, most of it was sent to my old address in accy, luckily my union stuff was soon diverted to me new one as obviously i notified them, but stuff from solicitors regarding peoples accidents were not, the person who purchased my property in accy used to ring me to tell me mail had come, which was very good of em, but a damn nuisance fer me, as i had to trail from church to nr baxenden at rush hour to collect before going home to blackpool, when i had PAID fer this service, as far as i am concerned the GPO is crap from top to bottom, yes there are some good people who work hard for em, i still have a couple of mates that do, n their opinion is the same as mine, n they are near retirement now n have worked fer em fer donkeys.

Who are 'them'? I have complained about lying Posties. I haven't said all posties are liars; they aren't. I haven't done any tarring.

What about a reversable sign on the door 'Please Knock I'm in'
Or don't bother knocking I'm out, leave the parcel next door at No:?

I have no complaint with the foot postman except it comes so late,,,I was complaining about the post van deliveries ...and he must already have had some cards printed out already,,,with just the time to fill in,,,plus the fact that the sorting office is only open until dinner time,,,,

I was furtunate enough to actually catch the postie climbing over my gate last saturday morning (at around 7.15) the thing was he did knock, but didnt leave a card, just left 2 parcels on the doorstep. If for any reason I didnt hear the knock (which didnt actually wake the boys so couldnt have been all that loud) then no doubt my 2 parcels would have been stolen and I would have been none the wiser about the deliveries

Didnt agree with what he did but given that he had just woken me up and i was in my pj's i wasnt standing on the doorstep to argue

Re: displeased.

Our postie is great- very conscientious and he also just posted a birthday card yesterday that had a "£1.14 to pay" sticker on it. The cynic in me thinks he might not have realised, but it would be nice to think he just thought it was ridiculous charging £1 processing for a 14p "underpayment".

Anyway - I think the worst offenders are anyone with a schedule to keep. I've caught a delivery bloke trying to put a card through the door at 4pm saying he'd tried to deliver at 12:45pm. It was for a guaranteed 1pm delivery that he'd missed.

Re: displeased.

im sorry but i have to defend us postal workers a bit we knock on the door to get rid of the packages, the last thing we want is to be carrying dead weight around with us all day.
if your on the first part of the round and this happends we have to try and squeeze it in our bulging other 7 bags.
ive knocked on doors, rang bells several times waited for 5 mins and moved on only to be called back 5 mins after that with "oy postie" its very annoying.

we deliver to about 1000 homes so when you get letters through the post from someone who lived there 9 years ago and complain to us often sending the letters back with abuse jotted all over the letter you must realise we just deliver we dont send.

mistakes do happen were only human and if you ring the number on the card we will re deliver it for you the next day free of charge even to the inconveinance of the postie who has already tried to deliver previously but you will be surprised how manty times we redeliver and theres still no answer.

im refering to the foot posties here not the vans drivers .but i feel all posties are being tared with the same brush here the vast majority of posties in accrington take pride in delivering all mail correctly and im one of them!
