Fortnightly bin collection
Hi everyone, i know its been a while since i posted anything, hope your all doing well. Just thought i'd raise the issue on Bin collections.
personally, i think its silly that they only do it every two weeks. Its a bad idea for large families. The crazy thing is that the coucil and envionmental officers have been moaning about excess garbage bags out on streets or cluttering up in gardens. But can they really blam us? Where else can you put bin bags if your wheelie bin is full from a weeks refuse already? I lived in yorkshire 27 years and we had collections every week. Our streets were constantly clean, and i still is to this day. ( I went to se my mum other day lol ) Anyway, just wondering whether im alone on this one or not. Holla back! |
Re: Fortnightly bin collection
I think it is too. I'm sick of the flies that swarm around the bin, every time I lift the lid they all fly out. Its unhygienic and I think its disgusting.
I recycle as much as I can but still have a full bin every two weeks, often with the lid partly open which doesn't make the fly problem any better. Not just that, a lot of people where I live don't have lids on their bins (for whatever reason) so you can imagine the smell. Bring back weekly collections I say. |
Re: Fortnightly bin collection
It's all supposed to be designed to get us to recycle. Really all it seems to do is lead to more aggravation and more fly-tipping.

Re: Fortnightly bin collection
Personally, I dont have a problem with the fortnightly collection of my normal waste (very rarey have any overflow) but what I dont like is having to keep recycling lying around for 2 weeks at a time. Ya cant keep it out for the fact that someone will just spread it for you (I am near a school so its bound to happen) And I dont like keeping rubbish around the house but dont have much of a choice. It was easier when you could just dump it in a bin and it was collected, not have to sort it all yourselves and keep it sat around for a week or two til the next collection

Re: Fortnightly bin collection
We've had a few of these threads before.
If you are recycling properly you shouldn't have a problem fitting your rubbish into your bin. Unless you have a lot of people living in your house or babies in nappies...the nappies do take up a lot of room in the bin and oooooh, the honk! In these circumstances I believe you can request a bigger bin. We had to put bags of used nappies in the car in between collections and take them to the tip but those days are over, thank God. |
Re: Fortnightly bin collection
I recycle and compost religiously( the wife says obsessively)also anything to good to bin goes to the charity shop and every 2 weeks with a family of 4 our wheelie bin is only half full at the most, so in our case the collection every 2 weeks works great............:):)

Re: Fortnightly bin collection
The inasnity is that we have three children with us ( thats 5 of us in total lol ) one in nappies still ( so you can imagine how much that will take up every day ) and one being toilet trained - so the odd mishap results in more refuse etc...etc... Point is that even though we do recycle...we STILL generate large amounts of waste that we have to result in putting rubbish bags outside next to the bins. Either that or we keep it indoors...I DONT THINK SO!!!

I have 2 in nappies at the mo and know exactly what your saying, but i put all my nappies in the bin and from time to time take the "clean" rubbish up to the tip, I can tell if its gonna get too full (not putting stinky nappies in my car, its bad enough with the boys lol) |

Re: Fortnightly bin collection
Lilly, i have done that...but they only sent me a normal size bin ( which i might add took 5 weeks because i had to re-order a bin because some chavs nicked mine. But yeah i think a larger bin might solve our problem however im still for Weekly collections.
Keep our streets Clean! |

Dear god, i remember when we had two in nappies, chirst that was awful! The memories are still fresh because we've only just got one of them to use the toilet...nearly lol |
Re: Fortnightly bin collection
We have a 1 year old in nappies and i have to say they hardly take up any room and the bigger bins for 5+ in a house are apparently a thing of the past as they were to heavy for the bin wagon to lift............

Tell me about it, another joy of having twins, and no matter how hard I (and others) try they just cant get used to the whole potty / toilet thing They know you go "wee" on the toilet but just cant get it themselves lol So until they do, will still be going through what seems like hundreds of nappies a week |
Re: Fortnightly bin collection
Great...then im screwed then? lol

Re: Fortnightly bin collection
our four year old goes wee on the toilet just fine...its Number two he's struggling with.
Very worrying seeing as he starts school wednesday. We've had all these "so called" professionals advising us to do this and that...but nothing seems to be working :( |
