I did forget to say that I would be against the splitting of the uk for many reasons...
I honestly cannot see the sense in leaving one Union, to join another (The EU). It is clearly bigotry and short sightness from Alex Salmond First minister as to why his party want to create a Republic of Scotland.

I do think that it is fiscally naive, given the massive kick in the balls Scotland will take under the present credit crunch. Look at Ireland (Salmond's model for an Independent Scotland) it has gone tits up before Britain.

Given the ever changing world, and especially post 9/11, I think that Scotland needs an ally like the other 3 Countries of the United Kingdom.

Together, Britain is a very diverse Country and each Country within the Union can assist the other. I couldn't give a **** if the Frogs & the Krauts want a European Superstate. In the end, they are all in it for themselves. That is not what the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland is about. It is in essence a Co-Op of 4 Countries assisting each other, and not doing the dirty.. that is how Britain will survive the current economic climate and prosper.

basically there is no other Country in the World with the Diversity of Britain. Therefore that would make us a World Leader in many fields, and with a push in the right direction and proper leadership??? through the Credit Crunch.. there is nothing to say that Britain cannot emerge as the power it once was.

So I think to even contemplate Independence is sheer stupidy, whether that be now or in 300 years time.

my tuppence worth...

and its not so much hate - as thats a very strong word at the best of times..I think you will find its only the minority who are like that and even then you can fire that one to the footy fans on both sides of the border - having been in the mix with both english and scottish fans - they are as bad as each other..and you could ask why so many english people move to scotland if they obviously dislike the scots so much....
and if scotland were to go it alone what makes you think it would go belly up...seriously ?

GG, I thought the smiley's may given it away, obviously not, but if you were born in Hamshire why arn't you called Hampshire Guy:D. As you say there are minorities on both sides of the devide. Just for the record one of my best mates ever was a chap from glasgow, I worked with him for quite a few years, well worked is not really the right word, we were room mates as well. He was quite a few years older than me and sadly he died in 1980, but I still remember those heady days we spent together

Not a lot of people know this flashy, but people who do not have what they call a prescribed disease ( a condition which you can get free prescriptions, i.e diabetes) can actually apply for a exemption certificate. As you know I suffer from asthma which is not on the list, and I used to get a season ticket (pre-payment) I called into my docters to get a form to renew my certificate, and was told that with my condition and the number of drugs I was on I should apply for an exemption, to the family practitioners committee, which I did and then got one. This was a few years ago,so I don't know whether this still applies and I think the family practitioners committee has changed its name, but concidering my monthly prescription is usually 15 items I think that I could be concidered to have a life threatening condition and have had fr 30 years now

Hope he's well...a great bloke (and a great goalie, according to my dad)!

As for the England/Scotland situation, the whole debate will become increasingly irrelevant as time goes by, as both countries will simply be regions of the United States of Europe a few years down the line.

I know somebody who lives in the same flats has him, if I manage to see them I'll ask how he's going on. As for the Europe thing Cameron said in his speach this afternoon that if elected he would put the European issue to the British people in a referendum, something the present government promised in their manifesto in 2005 and then reneged on this year.
