Norhtern Ireland to abolish prescription charges.

announcement made that N.I. will abolish prescription charges down to £3 by jan 2009 then to nothing by april 2010, seems to me like the irish n scottish governments do more fer its citizens than our useless lot. wonder if gordon will reciprocate this? somehow i doubt it.

We can't afford to give ourselves free prescriptions can we, its costing us too much to pay for everyone elses.

I am sick and tired of England getting a raw deal on everything. Why do we have separate assemblies or parliaments for the others and not for us? We have to make do with Westminster which seems to have everyone else's best interests at heart.

What do you expect with a Scottish PM?

Its getting crazy, Some areas will have Westminster - Scottish - County - Local - and sometimes Parish Councils. What the hell are they all doing except costing money?

Don't run away with the idea that it'll be any different if/when your lad gets in, Jaysay. He was saying in interviews about how determined he was to retain the United Kingdom. Why? As far as I'm concerned, Scotland (and Wales and NI, for that matter) are welcome to their independence. The Scots, in particular, are fond of telling us about how hard done by they are in a United Kingdom. OK, lads, well go and have your independence, then - raise your own taxes, have your own armed forces, in fact, take on all the trappings of a genuinely independent country. You're welcome to it!

As I said in a previous thread, we need a revolution.

As an aside, when son was a student at a Welsh university he used to get his perscriptions at the end of the summer hols and take them to Wales with him and get them free

Well I totally agree with you WH, let the jocks have their independence, then they probably stop whining, that is until it goes belly up that is. I could never understand why, when they hate the English so much, why so many want to come down here to live. There's a pile of porrige spoons in a field this side of the iron bridge left there by scots seeking their fortune down here, if they gain independence please pick them up on your way home:D:rolleyes:

A federal system of govt. can work. It works in Canads. In a country this size, there are distinct regional differences ... the lower mainland of BC is a differnt world from Newfoundland, or Saskatchewan, and, especially Quebec, which after two failed votes looks as if it will stay part of Canada. Things which concern Canada as a whole are dealt with in Ottawa. Things that concern Ontario alone are dealt with at Queen's Park. The limits of governmental responsibility are set out in the British North America Act of 1867. Canada is a sort of United Kingdom: the Queen is the head of state; the feds in Ottawa take care of Canadian things, the provincial and territorial govts. look after their stuff; and the municipalities deal with local issues. But the bottom line is, we are all Canadians and damn proud of it.

I live down here but I was born in hampshire with scottish parents so what does that make me ?
and its not so much hate - as thats a very strong word at the best of times..I think you will find its only the minority who are like that and even then you can fire that one to the footy fans on both sides of the border - having been in the mix with both english and scottish fans - they are as bad as each other..and you could ask why so many english people move to scotland if they obviously dislike the scots so much....
and if scotland were to go it alone what makes you think it would go belly up...seriously ?
