How Many Ways Do You Think Your Money Has Been Sneakily Taken From You?

Whilst giving the old brain a dusting down, I got to thinking of the ways money has been slyly taken from us via taxes and charges. Since having my children in the 80's I've noticed some of the things we pay now that have not helped me one iota (but I'm sure the rich have benefited from it) and I've lost a lot by having certain taxes/help reduced or abolished. Here are a few of them.

1. VAT on Elec/Gas/Water2. Charges for not using D/D to pay Utility Bills3. Current Accounts Monthly Fee4. No longer allowed milk tokens/school meals/uniforms unless on Income Support. Used to get it if you claimed FIS or earned under certain amount.5. Rent free weeks reduced to 2 instead of 4 if Council Tenant6. Water Rates included in with rent if Council Tenant7. Free prescriptions only available on income support/in school, over 60 or earning less than £12000 per year. Used to get it if you claimed FIS.8. Travel costs for hospital appointments paid if you are on Income support/DLA. Used to get it if you claimed FIS9. Dentists/Opticians if on Income Support, in school, over 60 or earn under £12000 per year. Used to get it if you claimed FIS10. Married mans tax allowance. Abolished11. Jobseekers now taxable earnings.12. Working Tax Credit (was FIS) now based on previous gross earnings in last tax year. Used to be based on net earnings from previous 7 weeks earnings.

Can you think of any other ways we have been robbed?

I think it's Family income supplement, but I can't remember nor from a quick google can I see it being something existing for some time, hasn't it been replaced by tax credits, perhaps someone should copy and paste something more up to date?

It was Family Income Supplement, later changed to Family Credit. This was then replaced by Working Tax Credits.

No. Being on my own 5 days of the week leaves me a lot of time and I sleep about 4 hours a day on average. Besides my brain just will not switch off. I don't believe I'm what you would call sensible either :D

Blackburn Council have found a whole new way of robbing me and every otherCouncil Tax payer of money: they have introduced free off street parkning on some streets and are going to expand this scheem on Saturdays in the run up to Xmas. this means that non council tax payers from outside the borough are going to be able to park for free and of course the estimated 50,000 pounds that the council will l9oose in revenue will have to be covered from elsewhere,, Guess who will foot the bill? Yes, those who live inside the borough and do not own cars and those who do own cars and do not shop in Blackbure (that is me)
Remember Robin Hood? He used to rob the rich to pay the poor, BwDC rob the poor and pay the rich!

Business owners have all of that, and things like.. A licence to carry waste/rubbish from a customers house to the skip in our yard, an extra charge for emptying the bin, a licence to allow playing the radio in the office, and a different licence to play the radio in the showroom next to the office, now, as we have 2 offices, we have to have 2 licences, (one for each premises) even though it is the same staff listening to the radio, but dependent on which office they are in on the day! The really bugging bit is, we have a licence for a tv in one office, but still have to have the other licence for the radio!

:)

I think it was used to emphasise the point that when what one claimed was FIS then one got lots of other additional benefit from doing so, but now one claims something which replaced FIS one does not get all the addional benefits which accompanied FIS.

Been free parking in Accy for donkeys years Polly and quite a stink has been kicked up on and off when suggestions have been put forward to introduce charges. The main objection has always been that it will stop people coming into Accrington to shop and therefore affect local shops and businesses.

And I wonder what Tony and Gordon have been doing for the last ten years, they were reelected in 2005 with the promise of a referendum on the European Constitution then said sod of we're signing the treaty in Madrid without asking you lot.:thefinger

The tv license I think is quite a sneaky way of getting more money from us, but without us paying all these taxes, look at what we would probably have to pay for that we don't currently, for example everything that the NHS covers. If we don't pay one thing, then they get us on another.

I just worked out that I'm paying £380 a year for six toilet flushes and the water in 16 cups of tea per week. No wonder they've told me they "aren't able" to fit a water meter...

Might be time to start bringing my own water from home...

Knowing my luck, the performing rights society will come round and charge me for the music I can hear when the bloke in the flat over our shop has his TV on too loud...

I seem to be getting that itch, why? well it's your posts, on your own 5 days a week or, is there a little group of you? Just trying to get folk on accy web wound up, enough for you and the rest, (pretending to be one person), to suddenly start putting links to extra little points and suddenly we have BNP, (or something just as extreme), washing their propaganda in our little web site!
If wrong I apologise now, if right, please stop it we can annoy each other, we don't need whatever you are trying to build up to.

by the way, yes, I've seen you're a veggie with animals rights placed before human, we don't need that, we already tear each other apart.

Apology accepted although I really don't understand why you would think I am more than one person, nor do I know what I have done to offend you. I believe I have the right to state my opinion just as much as the next person and I certainly don't have an affiliation with any political group. I have no wish to post links to anything for the simple reason I don't believe in pushing anyone into something I believe to be right for me. I didn't force my children to forgo meat whilst they were growing up, nor did I force them to believe in reincarnation/witchcraft and a more natural way of life.

personaly i dontthink any council has any right to charge for parking especialy on a street seen as we pay road tax i think its highway robbery that they can paint a dotted box and stick a payment machine atthe end of it then charge you to park on a road that you have already paid for the right to use with road tax and ensuring your caris both legal and insured

dontget me started on that other rip off scheme where the council charge you to park your car outside your own house and fine you shoud you forget to put your sticker in although some people actualy like it there shoudlnt be a charge for it
