Pneumonia is bacterial, so can't think this has affected you at all, as the jab does also not contain any live bacteria.

I thought that the idea of a vaccination was to inject a weakened form of the virus or a dead one so that when the real thing comes around your body already has the ‘blueprint’ to produce the right antibodies.

Every year for many years now I get a letter from my doctor inviting me to make an appointment for the flu jab.

I take up the offer and I haven’t had even a cold since then let alone flu. Was it the jab or was it because I didn’t get infected?

Maybe it’s the fags that I smoke? No flu virus can get past the gunge in my lungs.

Sorry Jambutty you are correct of course .. meant to say 'not a live virus' :o

Re: your last post ... I haven't had a cold for three years, and would you believe, think I have one now, just hovering at the moment, however, have just texted daughter and perfectly OK for me to go ahead with my jab in the morning. Telling me off too for not having it earlier... me being lazy I'm afraid, have had the note from the Doctor's for over a month.

One thing has always puzzled me. Why do the nurses always say something like, “just a small scratch” when administering the injection?

It’s nothing like a scratch!

If they don’t fancy saying what could be misconstrued by dirty minded people, then say nothing. Just stick the needle in. It’s not as if the injection actually hurts and even if it does it is only for a second or two.

I grip a sharp, needle between my fingers and a blood taking bottle in my other hand...and as I approach the nervous patient... I just can't help saying,
'Hope you will bear with me here cos I haven't done this before' as I lick my lips nervously....
<<snigger>>

Its just my little joke...Yeah I know... hahaha!'

I get mine on thursday but it still seems that no one has had flu.
I've had it three times and it does not compare to a cold or even a heavy cold.
If you are out and someone says they have flu - They haven't.You are going nowhere but bed if you have got it.:jimbo::jimbo:

I was thinking that on Saturday night.

Cheryl Cole said on x factor that she had flu......she probably had a cold.

She wouldn't have been able to be there looking gorgeous if she had flu.

Quite good that kate, sounds like your daughter is a chip off the old block, having a good sense of humour. I used to be scared of needles, but not anymore, when you've had as any needles rammed in your arm as I have you become immune. By far the worst experience as far as needles are concerned is having your blood gases taken, which involves a needle being pushed directly into a main artery, and the blood being aloud to free flow into a pressurised syringe, now that does hurt, especially if the health professional ain't very good at it, and yes there are some. With being on oral steroids I bruise very easily and when I'm treated as an inpatient my arms are usually black and blue, especially the last time I was in, when they were taking my blood gases 5 times a day at one stage, not very nice

Aaaw ..poor you Jaysay .. going through it aren't you. Will try and give you some Karma for being a good boy as no sweeties available at the moment .. LOL. Seriously though sorry, for your sufferings. x

Bruises do look horrendous don't they, but only the blood spreading under the skin so don't worry about those.

Whoops too much Karma given, will not forget though.

Re: Flu Jab

Flu jabs for us old ones are the best thing ever. I used to think that I did not need them but I can assure you I was wrong. Three years ago I got a letter from the Surgery Saying that because I had just had a heart attack it was important for me to have the jab.I had the jab and never got flu that year or a cold either.Last year was the same no flu and no colds. I have just had it for this year and the Pneumonia jab as well.I always used to have colds and runny noses in Winter but not anymore. Get yourself along to the Surgery and get the jab. You will not regret it.
