Re: Where does the money go
This Health and Safety lark is getting out of hand, sending coppers on a course to learn how to climb a 3 foot ladder, I hate to think what Firefighters are put through:( We're all going to hell on a hand cart.

Re: Where does the money go
Happening everywhere, you have to have the training at the place I work for climbing ladders, blame health and safety, its all their doing
|
Re: Where does the money go
They would be better off training to use stilts... at least they would be taller then:
|
Re: Where does the money go
would be better spent training em to catch criminals. ive been 6ft up a ladder this aft with no training, what a ****** i am.:D

Re: Where does the money go
I think the newspaper worded the article to suit them. The people have been trained how to safely install/remove the signs. That includes using a ladder. Any employer that does not train its employees how to do a task safely is in breech of several laws put in place to protect the workers.
You could argue that they should not be using a ladder in the first place as a ladder is for access and is not a working platform. |

I know someone who had to go on a course to learn how to put the cones out for road works.

Re: Where does the money go
As my brother was saying the other week, it is ultimately down to common sense. He is working as a caretaker and though he knows it is daft to stretch out whilst on a ladder it is what folks do. The "claim culture" is at fault here, if you have an accident through your own stupidity then you shoud accept the fault is yours. Not expect your employer to pay compensation. It is people who have genuine claims that feel loath to claim whilst some people will claim when they are well aware their claim is not genuine.

Re: Where does the money go
Some intelligent people lack common sense.
I had to do health and safety inspections as part of my job. Wires trailing across carpets and fire exits blocked by boxes were frequently found. By giving staff training it provides the employer with reassurance that when accidents happen they can say 'did you do it in the safe way we showed you?' - if 'no'= no compen! |

Re: Where does the money go
When putting cones out they are usually on the back of a low loader just dropping them, collecting them is when they are on the road but no training to do that.( Just repeating what I have been told and also seen)
