I dont do a lot of driving, I try to walk when I can plus I drive a V6 so it likes to eat petrol.:(

However, yes I have drove at a steady 70Mph on numorous motorways, I would agree that some jorneys at 70-75 avarage, still no one has passed me and I find myself overtaking them. but on others I find 70mph, you are being overtaken by loads of cars. Suppose it could relate to time and place.

My comment was that 90% of people do not stick to under 70Mph all the time.

On my 70mph drive to work and back I pass lots of cars and yes some do pass me. You might be right with 90% do exceed 70mph sometimes but not all the time. It does not make it right though does it?

I stick to 70mph or less because it makes a difference to the amount of fuel I use. I do about 300 miles each week going to work but I do only average just over 4 days a week. Not a lot compared to some but enough for me to see what goes on on the roads and want to save some fuel.

I agree it does not make it right, but is a limit of 70Mph realistick (SP) with todays vehicles, with improved performance, handling, brakes ect. I mean I can do 100Mph in 3rd gear.

I would agree if I stick to 70mph the consumption of fuel is far, far better than if I drive a bit faster. and 300 Miles Per week to me is a lot, It would cost me at least £60 a week. this is one of the main reasons I have not gone for a manchester job.

But don't forget with all the improvements you mention there are still us humans behind the wheel making mistakes.

It still takes a long time to stop when you are doing 70mph and a car has just pulled into the side of your car on the motorway because they did not look properly before pulling out and nudged you into the crash barrier.

A few months ago I just missed a car that went up the bank into some trees on the M6. The car was on its side resting on a small tree. I suspect the driver was dead because they had the "did you witness an accident board out the next day".

70mph up the grass bank with a blown out tyre must be scary as well.

Speed IMO = Time and Place.

IMO 100MPH on a emply motorway at 1am isnt to bad, a higher powered car will handle at that speed no problem, a low powered car will not be so cleaver at that speed.

100Mph on a busy motorway, is dangeress.

I would say 90% of people exceed 70Mph on a motorway.

Mr D I used to drive for a living, unfortunately due to health problems I don't now. 100mph at 1am might not be to bad but its still breaking the law, end of. And of course people do over 70mph on the motorway, its the nature of the beast, but it doesn't make it right and if your caught you suffer the consequences, fines, penalty points, and we all know what points make, prizes and the top prizes is a copper running down the road with your licence, shouting sucker:rolleyes:

True, and i suppose you could say with all this technology in cars we feel a lot safer and dont realise the actual risk.

You are right, they should be banned. Most bikers are unsafe idiots.

Car manufacturers spend millions to make cars safer with air bags, crumple zones, pre tensioners blah blah blah.

What do they do to make bikes safe? Suggest you hold the handle bars tighter :D

Couldn't agree more, speeding is always viewed as a huge problem but the main issue is speeding at the wrong time in the wrong place.
