Potholes in Baxenden

Me and mi sis where on our way through Baxenden yesterday in her new car, there was an ambulance coming the other way so she swerved to get out the way only to encounter two of the largest potholes i've ever seen...they must have been at least half a metre in width and quite a few inches deep, two of them in the road just BEFORE you get to the 'no mans land' bit between Bash and Hollands pies...we ended up with a knackered tyre thanx to them  and had to go buy a whole new tyre

has anyone else encountered these huge craters yet?:mad::mad:

Re: Potholes in Baxenden

get back up with a camera and tape measure before teh council can fill it in and send them teh bill , i think roads are covered by lancashire county council but get your evidence before reporting it or they will fill it in and say what hole ?

big difference between a hole in the road and a child thats 3ft - 5ft tall and moving and if you cant tell the difference between a pot hole and a child then perhaps its you who needs to examine his driving ability

as far as i am aware hitting a pothole wont fail your driving test where as hitting a child would

take no notice flashy , unfortunatly over the years computers and the internet have become more easily accesable which although a good thing has sadly left it easier for simpletons to use as well

I once damaged a tyre, wheel and suspension in a hole on a road in Blackburn
When a hole is full of water it looks like a small puddle
It do not drive/swerve to avoid puddles:rolleyes::p

ok so you've probably gone by now Polly, they are on your left going towards Hollands, just before you get to the sign that says Baxenden(the one you see coming the other way), shortly after the tyre place

i doubt mi sis would be able to prove anything now though, she already replaced the tyre

Re: Potholes in Baxenden

Can I ask one thing....please spell check your posts...its really annoying.

P.s stop moaning...and claim off the council...they will never fix the mistakes if you don't point it out...a tyre costs a lot of money...money they should have spent to fix the potholes...and then this post would never have existed!!!

hairylee 25-01-2009 20:44

Not you stop moaning Flashy...the other geezer...whats his face...erm I forgot...

she'll certainly report it to the council, she isnt bothered about compensation for the tyre though

Heh, 6 posts into your life on accyweb and you are wingeing about spelling...

If I was you I'd get used to it as you will never stop people spelling things incorrectly. Its an informal forum at teh end of teh day, spelling isn't THAT important as long as teh content is valid.

PS, BTW I was going to go back and change all the 'teh's' above but if you search round you will find its a quirk of my brain that I will more often than not spell it that way. I guess its just one of those things.....

UPDATE- Oooo, All my the's have been corrected!!!!!!!!! - I demand my t e h 's bacK!!!! Its what makes me ME!!!

As for the Potholes themselves, I nearly hit them this morning. At 6 am in the dark etc they are quite hard to spot unless you are critically examining the road surface in which case you aren't looking where you are going properly and are likley to end up running into someone/thing.

I'll be ringing teh council up myself later to make sure they do something ASAP.

did you not notice the flashing blue light and the siren going off  as you were going up/down the road! also it says you should not swerve out of the way to let an emergency service past you should pull over at a safe and convinet place to do so! i suggest you read the high way code again :D

She wasnt driving, it was her sister, so why should she have to read the highway code??? And there are cases where you have no choice but to swerve from an emergency vehicle, you dont always get the opportunity to see one in plenty of time to "find a safe and convenient pleace to pull over" ive had to swerve to avoid a police car before now travelling at silly speeds towards me, you dont always see them in plenty time, think the issue of this thread was more the potholes in the road, that are sometimes un-avoidable for whatever reason and can and do cause damage to some peoples cars

the bloke on the phone was very nice and he was on the phone for about 10 minutes telling me that they can't go around continuously monitoring every road/street in Lancashire and that the highways agency rely on the general public to inform them of such things

Maybe if they carried out road maintenance on a regular basis there wouldn't be pot holes in the first place, just a thought:rolleyes:
