Animals are certainly not dumb ; our first house in Preston when we got married was a 2 up 2 down outside loo the back door was the old latch type.
we had a young cat one day we heard what we though was someone trying to creep in the back door so i went and opened the door and there was the cat swinging on the latch one paw through the handle and one on the latch this was funny to see but the shocking thing was he also had a 1/4 boiled ham in his mouth and i could hear the next door neighbor shouting, the cat had sneaked in though an open window and nicked it hehe

Re: Missing dog

update.....the dog got out of the front gate, its a corner house with garden all around...for some reason the binmen came in through the front gate....weird as they always come the back way!!, the dog was taken to aspen kennels, in the end the dog warden brought him back....no charge...since the dog has been back, he couldnt walk properly, he could just manage before, poor sods legs where on the way out:(, also had a cough.
His cough overnight got worse, and he collasped a few times in the garden, due to his poor back legs and he was wheezing more.
Took him to the vets and the vet said it was best to put him to sleep :(
Now it doesnt matter who let him out because in the end he's gone anyway, everyone is upset, so now i think its time to close the thread...and as some said....END OFF!

RIP max my old boy xx

Thanks for letting us know Panther, and one of the saddest endings we have had to a thread/incident on Accyweb. Sorry for the owners and yes, RIP Max. Don't think his escape was in vain though, as lots of helpful comments for dog owners in the future.

Very sorry. x

Quite agree kate, losing a pet is like losing a member of the family, its just a pity that animals have a lot shorter life span than use humans

I had to have my dog put to sleep earlier this month, he had cancer, and it was the hardest thing to do. He was my dog, and my companion. He helped me through it when my Mum was so ill.

To the people who have called Jay for whatever, I hope you hang your head in shame. It's all too easy to hide behind a computer screen and say what you think rather than to peoples faces isn't it?

I'm thinking about you Jay and your dog, and my thoughts are with you

Re: Missing dog

I'm really confused by what I see as accusations and blame on this thread.

Most people do not walk out into their garden to check that their gate has been closed by the postman/bin man etc before letting their dogs out. They'd just open the door and the dog would go out.

It IS bad manners to leave a gate open if you have had to open it to enter. ANYONE entering a yard or garden etc should know better than to leave a gate open. Forget about bad care of pets, I think some people need to have been brought up with more manners!

The dog warden DID do his job but it is ridiculous to demand £70 is paid IF the dog has a collar on. If it hasn't then from what I understand the dog is a stray and causes problems with returning it to its owner and so on. The council are clearly using this as a way of getting money out of accidents and that isn't right at all.

As for children going blind from dog waste, it is made worse by children following bad hygiene routines after playing outside so again, perhaps parents need to to be more thorough with teaching their children hygiene and manners and so on.

I can't actually believe how insensitive some of the people have been on this thread. Yes Neil you work in the park and I imagine dog waste gets on your nerves, but at the end of the day Jae and his family have been really responsible dog owners and as a result have had a happy and well looked after pet for a long time. He might be gone now but he died an old and loved pet and I think it is pretty insulting that there have been rants about bad pet owners in this thread when they've been fantastic with Max.

That sort of attitude to dog ownership is what caused the thread to wonder like it did. You are responsible for your dog. If you allow it outside unsupervised it is your fault. Not the postman, binman, takeaway menu delivery bloke or not even the fault of the JW's that wanted to give you a free Watchtower. It is your resposibility.

I think of it as a fine for breaking the rules, just like dropping litter carries a fine.

Is it not only insensitive to be discussing it now?

I don't work in the park. I volunteer my own time to try and make the park a better place for us all to go and enjoy ourselves in. Yes there is a dog mess problem in the park but it is relatively small compared to the number of dogs in the park. Most owners are responsible when it comes to cleaning up after their dog.

Re: Missing dog

I didn't realise volunteering wasn't work. The job centre classifies volunteering as work. Unpaid work.

Unless I'm missing something.

I'd be pretty ****ed off if I had to keep going out to retrieve my dog because people with no manners couldn't be bothered to close my gate. At the end of the day, Jae lives with his elderly grandparents and they shouldn't have to keep getting up to close their gate just because the binmen can't be bothered.

I've always been told to leave a place as I found it. I thought the park has an animal area which presumably needs to be kept secure at all times. Maybe we should feed the animals crap and then blame you for having a fence that has gaps to poke things through? If the goats did damage to a person passing by you'd blame the person, you wouldn't take responsibility because you've asked people to show respect and follow the rules you have in place and you'd put all the liability on them.

I always thought in America that a collar was seen as a sort of licence on a dog and if it escaped they'd return it to you but if it had no collar it'd be a stray and they'd fine you for it.

May I remind you that one of the goats did hurt someone and he was removed shortly afterwards.

Re: Missing dog

I'm just putting forward an example of how an irresponsible dog owner is distinguished from one that is very responsible and loving to their pet. It's called comparative reflection.

Never mind though.

Neil can be classes as 'right' for all I care, because at the end of the day I know for a fact that he is wrong in this instance and should have kept his big cocky mouth shut in the first place.
