Carrier bags
the welsh assembly are bringing forward a proposal that means being charged up to 15p per carrier bag.
BBC NEWS | UK | Wales | Welsh plan may mean 15p bag fee Most of the time i have a big bag with me for my shopping but sometimes i've got more shopping than will fit in the bag .. ok i'll pay 5p but not 15p .... M & S charge now for bags in the food bit .. 5p i think it is .. which goes to Groundwork ... but would you go to asda/tesco and pay 15p per bag .... |
Re: Carrier bags
nope! the shop on the corner charge 5p a bag... so i put the stuff under the pram instead or use my re-usable ones (if i remember them) :D

Re: Carrier bags
i have more chance of being struck by lightening than paying 15p fer a bag.

Re: Carrier bags
I would not pay 15p for a plastic bag and I don't think it's got anything to do with being green. It's a money-maker.
I generally shop at Sainsburys, often get my shopping online but I like to shop for fresh goods, and I have 6 "bags for life" that live in my car boot. Every other time I go to Sainsburys I actually remember to take the bags in with me. On the days I don't remember I pile all the stuff into the trolley, after the checkout, and pack it all in the car park. It's a pain in the arris. I like Morrisons for fresh fish and I also like M & S for the rather nicer stuff. I cannot take a Sainsburys bag into either of these, because I am a wimp, so I have a very snazzy green shopping bag from Next for use there. I also have a folding bag that lives in my handbag. On the rare occasions that I remember to use this bag it takes me about an hour and a lot of bad language to refold it. :( |
Re: Carrier bags
They have started charging here too Jen. It's only one cent per carrier bag but I've decided to recycle by using them as rubbish bags. The supermarket is losing out on a couple of euros a month for the nice perfumed variety.

Re: Carrier bags
This is it though ... a lot of people buy their shopping online now .. so how could tesco/asda/sainsbury's charge 15p per carrier bag to bring your shopping to you .. you havent the chance to use re-usable bags because you arent there .. its the shop assistant thats done your shopping for you...

Re: Carrier bags
That is bad. I used to love Tesco.com but wouldn't have liked to pay the five quid delivery and the price of carrier bags. I can imagine having a delivery service is a lot easier for you and lots of other folk who can't get out and about easily.
What a bad world. |
Re: Carrier bags
It could have changed now Accylass but when I used Tesco.com they did bring everything into the house in plastic boxes and unpacked them in my kitchen. No carrier bags and they were good kids.

Re: Carrier bags
I dont do any shopping online .. i always go to the supermarket/market/shop myself... but sometimes dont have enough bags on me .. if they did start charging 15p i just wouldnt get the shopping .. that would mean then theyre going to miss out on maybe extra £10/£15 i would have spent .. what would they rather have .. the 15p per carrier bag or the extra £10?

Re: Carrier bags
Asda played at this, they said they had stopped the free bags but were giving away the big green ones for a couple of weeks. I think they are rubbish, two had holes in them when I got home after a single use. Then all of a sudden the free ones appeared again.
I was prepared to walk away and leave £120 worth of shopping on the till if they said there were no free bags. I am stubborn like that :D |

Re: Carrier bags
we buy online when we can't be arsed to go fer it n they ask ya if ya want it in bags or not, if ya don't the driver unpacks yer crates in yer kitchen simple as:)

Re: Carrier bags
Over here the discount supermarkets charge a nickle a bag .... but you can bring your own, and if you do, many stores will give you a little discount. The high end stores still give you bags for free. I think taking your own bags to the store is a great idea ... sometimes it is easy being a little green ... Sorry Kermit

My kitchen waste bin is designed to use carrier bags.(see pic)
I find that internet deliveries always include bags, even when you have asked for them not to. |
