Money is it real.

It is the month of June, on the shores of the Irish Sea . It is raining, and the little town looks totally deserted. It is tough times, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit.

A rich tourist comes to town.

He enters the only hotel, lays a 100 Euro note on the reception counter, and goes to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one.

The hotel proprietor takes the 100 Euro note and runs to pay his debt to the butcher.

The butcher takes the 100 Euro note, and runs to pay his debt to the pig grower.

The pig grower takes the 100 Euro note, and runs to pay his debt to the supplier of his feed and fuel.

The supplier of feed and fuel takes the 100 Euro note and runs to pay his debt to the town's prostitute that in these hard times, gave her "services" on credit.

The hooker runs to the hotel, and pays off her debt with the 100 Euro note to the hotel proprietor to pay for the rooms that she rented when she brought her clients there.

The hotel proprietor then lays the 100 Euro note back on the counter so that the rich tourist will not suspect anything.

At that moment, the rich tourist comes down after inspecting the rooms, and takes his 100 Euro note, after saying that he did not like any of the rooms, and leaves town.

No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now without debt, and looks to the future with a lot of optimism.

Anyone still think that money is real ?

The tourist provided the hotelier with an interest free loan which would never happen

Re: Money is it real.

but the towns people could have cleared this themselves without the rich tourist. Your example showed each with a debt of 100 and a creditor of 100 so all of them had a new balance of zero. your example is just a microscopic view of life and finance as a whole.

<for Less>

When it gets interesting is when you introduce the rich banker who skims off
exorbitant interest from everyones overdrafts and charges so he can buy the best meat from the butcher, services of the whore, drinks off the hotelier and still have money in his pocket

That money was only a deposit while he inspected the rooms, the rooms not being satisfactory, he took his deposit back. Everyone else got paid.

The last person to put the money there was the hooker, that was her payment to the hotel, the tourist did take it back so the hotel never got paid the money owed by the hooker

But in a sense he is still a c-note ahead because now he doesn't owe the butcher.
