Re: Two More Pubs Close

the govenment think drinking is bad for you and a minonority of people put pressure on the govenment to act so inevitably the govenment will rather than directly close pubs will make it so hard for pubs to survive they are forced to close

pubs cant compete with supermarkets prices for beer so rather than lower what tax pubs have to pay the govenment want to increase tax on what supermarkets pay which dosnt help pubs but does rake in a whole load of extra cash for the govenment

just by driving over teh hills of teh accrington area you can see how much damage has been done to teh pub industry because most of teh pubs are now indian returants:rolleyes:

despite what teh govenment claim teh smoking ban is the number 1 reason for teh demise of most of the pubs that have closed, until teh smoking ban there has never been such a huge amount of pubs close in such a short time and not even this so called credit crunch can be used as an excuse because most pubs survived previous depressions

Hmm, I think that goes along the lines of a thread I started,
http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/f...dog-50063.html

But isn't it a little early for a thread wander Maggie?

The extinction of pubs is far more pressing than any other global fret.

not just to do with smoking the closure of pubs.. The prices are way too much nowadays. a drop in alcohol tax and much cheaper drinks would fill pubs for sure. Who wats to pay £3 a pint

Pub closures are part of the social programme.
People sitting in front of TVs, drinking at home are-
....not causing street disturbances
....are getting the 'mind programming' that TV provides
....are not socialising with others
....and so are not exchanging 'subversive opinions' with others
result - a dumbed down compliant population

So says a person that admits she hardly ever goes out these days? At last we know where you're coming from!

Re: Two More Pubs Close

I am avoiding contact with stressed people such as you.
I am not 'dumbed down' by TV, fluoride, aspartamine and junk food.
Books, webrowsing, family meals at restaurants and the occasional walk in the countryside are all I need for
'peace of mind'.

I do recall a time when I enjoyed the pub social scene - times change - I have found a new way of life which suits me.

What I don't like is that people who do want an active social life have had their choices limited.

By those people that 'know best', you mean?
You know the ones, always telling us how much fluoride is in our beer? Why we shouldn't use micro-wave ovens? How any scientific advance is bad for us, (no doubt including the wheel)? Why we shouldn't eat fast food? How sugar, salt, tea, coffee, vaccinations and other such things that the sane members of society willingly take for granted are a secret plot against us?

If those are the ones you mean I'm behind you 100%, just don't stand too close to the edge of the cliff when on your country walk, I don't think I could resist the temptation!
:D

Also close the out of town pubs, to keep everyone in the centre where they can be monitored. and make more revenue.

For such hostility, I preserve my peace of mind by putting you on 'ignore'.

Now you're being silly, or have you arranged for someone to P.M. my comments to you so that you can keep up?
