Do you still use them
Its been said this morning that the humble cheque is to be phased out by 2018, do you still use them (not you cashy:D) When I actually thought about it I realised I very rarely us cheques these days as I pay for most thinks by credit or debit card on line mostly and most of my household bills are on direct debit or standing orders. I think I've had my present cheque book for over two years so I wouldn't miss the cheque at all

Re: Do you still use them
I use them sometimes. They often prefer cheques at school when you're paying for uniforms or trips, etc. Plus, great to post to people when you can't pay by bacs or debit card.
I like the convenience of being able to pay for things in various ways - I have debit card and cheque book so use whichever suits. |
Re: Do you still use them
I do use cheques, but not often. I use them to pay the paper bill monthly.
The shop closed down but still continue the service, so a cheque is left in the letterbox for them to pick up, obviously cash is not acceptable. However the bank, and many other institution, do not care to consider what their CUSTOMERS would like. Older peolpe will be wary of machines and giving card numbers over he phone. Considering it is not to happen until 2018 we have a god deal time to sort it out, and make other alternatives. Remember only a few years ago we said Sunday shopping would not catch on. |

Re: Do you still use them
I have bulk deliveries of food supplements from USA using UPS.
They come 'cash on delivery' within 2 days- the transport costs have already been paid on line - the sum due is VAT, 12% import duty, and a small handling fee, so I can never know in advance how much cash (precicely) it will be. A cheque backed up with a cheque card is quicker and easier for the driver and me. I don't like recieving cheques unless they're BIG of course. I got a piddling premium bond win a few days ago and will have to make the effort to go to Accy to pay it in. |
Re: Do you still use them
i still use cheques .. only tuesday i put one into my account .. because bt couldnt transfer it over .. I use a debit card as well ... but actually prefer cash over using my debit card or a cheque book.

Re: Do you still use them
I paid a few hundred quids worth in to the bank the other day so I still like them.
Only thing is they were to repay money I had already paid out for the park :( |

Re: Do you still use them
Remember, it will only be phased out if suitable alternatives can be found.
Which sort of says they have not yet. |
