Hyndburn's bins make the national press.

Express.co.uk - Home of the Daily and Sunday Express | UK News :: Families' anger as bins go unemptied for 3 weeks

Still, all publicity is good publicity, as long as it's not the Duke of Kent reading the Daily Express, because we know to our cost, he doesn't know where Hyndburn is anyway.

:D

Remove the Angel hair from around your baubles, and then store the tree in a cool dark place until Whit Sunday, when there should be no further threat of ice, and they will be collected and turned into a mulch for the flower towers.

Neil if you either email Hyndburn BC on [email protected] or ring 01254 388111 or fax 01254 392597 you should be able to get more information.

This is the latest update on bin collection - received at 8.39am.

Also I have just come back from a funeral in Clayton and there was a recycling wagon driving up Whalley Road.

Further to yesterday's update;

I should have confirmed everyone that we have also deployed hand sweepers to the main townships this morning - emptying litter bins and picking up any litter were possible.

Because recycling crews will be unable to access everywhere today, once they have completed where they can, they will be going back to those recycling collections from any 'missed' areas. You can now confirm to these residents to leave out any containers that have already been presented and we will do our upmost to empty them over the coming week.

I am please to say that all staff are assisting each other in clearing waste off the streets as quickly as possible and this includes staff from Parks and Open who are helping with recycling collections.

Please thank residents for their understanding and confirm that we have deployed every available member of staff to pull back waste collections.

Yes Tuesdays is our day and it was back to normal grey bin as usual. We missed our cardboard last week, the rest went ok.

They were struggling last week because they could not get the wagon to the houses. They were parked on Catlow Hall Street and carrying it a long way. I am not surprised they stopped as they would not have been able to do everyone anyway. I would guess houses further away from me may have missed being collected.

Thank you for the information - you were fortunate not to have missed any black bin collections - there are many areas of Hyndburn which have not had any black bin collections for 4 weeks and will not have their black bin collected until next week at the earliest.

the good thing about cardboard is that it is very unresistant to fire so if worst comes to worst there are alternative options available :)

Your forgetting all the paper shufflers, and
the spies to see whats in you bin, and whether you put it out on the right day.
How much does a spy earn in a year, plus the transport to carry the ladder to peep over your back yard wall, and the one who holds the ladder, how much is he on, they he will have a secretary to type all his reports, it goes on and on.

I, remember reading in the Telegraph just recently, that Lancs County employ 70 staff in the publicity department. What the hell can you find to publicise, that need so many.
Thats more staff that some newspapers employ.

well its not looking like ours our getting done any time soon and if the clinical waste team dont show up tomorrow the poor sods down teh road will have 2 weeks worth of excrement and urine at teh end of tehir drive.

teh problem is if they dont put it out it is very hard to get them back to collect it and no one shoudl have to stock pile weeks worth of poop etc in their home yet alone standard rubbish an dit can be a bit embarrasing having weeks of excrement outside your house for all to see not to mention the health hazzard implications of it been left for cats to rip apart and fling around teh place

the council could at least provide bins for people who have clinical waste so that its secure when left outside for collection instead of plastic yellow binliners dumped at the kerb

They were very late collecting though, usually early morning and the bin was still full when I went to bed at 2pm ish.

I think they must still be struggling to get up and down the streets. They usually reverse up the back street but doubt they could have as the bottom of it is just ice from the melting snow.

You'd have thought it common sense that up to date information re: collection days, changed because of the weather, would be listed on the council's website.

Other course it isn't. Common sense being as rare as an emptied bin.

Rossendale's idea, of getting council office workers, and the council Leader, out on the streets, to help get rubbish to main roads was a great idea.

It would have even been a great photo opportunity....for next year's calendar.

Hell, l hope our council never have to cope with a real emergency, rather than a few inches of the white stuff.

Just come home and cut through a few back allies, (safest way for me to travel, someone otherwise might recognise me), even when the bin men do collect, they will suffer delays the back streets are jammed tight with excess rubbish that folk can't deal with, each wagon will end up having to make extra trips to the tip as they plough their way through, no matter what or when has been promised, expect them to be slow to catch up.

I think perhaps next year the Council should consider that paying these guy's a little extra to give us as near a normal service as possible, could work out cheaper than pretending Christmas comes in Summer, not at a time Winter can throw it's worst at us.

They did put up a notice on their web site Neil, to tell residents that you could put them out with the extra bags in case they were in your area. They did do an extra collection of household waste down my road on Tuesday. Luckily, had left the grey bin out at the edge of my lawn .. had been 5 weeks... didn't miss a recyling collection though. Unfortunately, put any excess bags in the green bin for safe keeping ... did hear them, but was nicely tucked up under my duvet .. no way was I trotting out in me pyjamas !

The notice, however, was not on there until 11 o'clock Tuesday ... too late for me.

See they have issued a new statement and guidelines:

The streets around here haven't had their wheelie bins emptied, as they should have been on Monday, a day when 'normal service' was apparently resumed.

After they didn't come the week after Christmas I played safe, fearing they wouldn't be emptied again, and didn't put mine out.

Not a luxury for those with familes, as their overspilling bins, littering the streets, testify to.

The bin men came on to our estate yesterday and only emptied the bins that didn't need effort to get them to the bin wagon. Any that needed to be pulled along any snow were left.

But they did empty the old dears from next door who needs assistance with hers. They pulled the bin all the way down her driveway and back over the snow, so why empty hers and not the others that didn't need to be pulled as far as they were all near the pavement edge.

That now leaves a number of bins on the estate which are overflowing and won't be emptied for another two week, we've even still got all the paper and cardboard from Christmas day in the utility room that's waiting for a collection.

They came and emptied ours today on Avenue Parade, but didn't drive up the back alleys, they walked up for the bins, emptied them in the waggon on the side streets, but then left all the bins on the side streets for people to drag back up themselves. When i'd dragged mine back i looked inside...which they obviously hadn't...because there were still three binbags inside, so its half full already!!

Quite a giant leap into the land of conclusions there Neil.

If you notice next to the bin on it's side is one with Blackburn Rd scrawled on it so that back alley will have rich pickings being behind all those take-aways.

I have been in contact with the refuse collection department this morning and the current situation is as follows -

Last week we had reactive teams picking up where people had left their waste out to reduce the accumulation.
We appreciate that some people did not have their bins out but scheduled collections are continuing as planned this week. The crews are also removing all side waste as we have relaxed the rules for this collection.

So if your black bins are scheduled to be collected this week - please leave them out and any side waste as well

Our wheelie bins, although I kept mine in, were meant to be collected last Monday.

Happily the recycling was collected normally this Monday, and the day after the wheelie bins, and all sacks, were taken away.

yet their main objection to doing weekly collections is how much fuel doing twice as many pickups uses

well thats what they said to me when i pointed out that blacknurn had abandoned fortnightly collections and that lost councils operate a weekly collection

I have a touch sensitive lamp that is bust, the point is how do I dispose of this? It is made of metal with plastic and has electronic components, so just what do I do with it?

What do I do with an envelope that tells me to recycle it when my paper bag tells me not to recycle envelopes?

What do I do with a cardboard container with a metal bottom?

What do I do with a spray can that is predominantly metal but has plastic components?

It would seem that there is only one person lacking the imagination as to where to stick these items, I have been inundated, with requests from members to suggest were and how far up to place them.

To those members may I just say, this is a friendly site, please don't encourage what could be misconstrued as a lack of bonhomie, towards a fellow member no matter how unpopular he may seem to be, (yes, you lot you're trying to get me into trouble again, as if I need help!).
