Blimey, you've done your homework.

We are never too old to learn - so my delightful grandchildren keep telling me. And the exchanges on this site are equally educational and refreshing when posted in a respectful and proper manner. I extend my grateful thanks for that much alone whenever it is offered.

Before my time, but I can respect he was the great leader the country needed in it's most desparate hour.

Though I am influenced my great grandfather's opinion of him, who never forgave him, and thought he was evil, because he reportedly ordered that the army should use machine guns against the striking miners, in the General Strike of 1926.

You can be the class pet, seeing as the hamster's snuffed it, and the wheel's standing empty.

JFK apparently beat Nixon in 1960, because he shaved, just prior to going head to head in a televised debate, and therefore looked less swarthy, and more trustworthy to the viewing electorate.

If our candidates do face each other on the hustings, it might mean a quick trip to the smallest room for them all, armed with a Lady Shave and a Mach 3's, just before the fun and games begin.

Perhaps the Mayoress can signal the start of proceedings by dropping a silk scarf...after first running it up and down the legs and/or jaws of the candidates.

Well, we've got the 'Meet the Leaders' equivalent of last night's chancellor debate in around a week so we'll see.

(nb. airbrushing doesn't work in real life)

I bet Cameron's hands are as beautifully smooth as his baby face, never having had to soil them with any hard graft'

I bet his paid help's are more normal though, reddened and calloused, from all that carrying and fetching.

Oh come of it there is hardly a politician that's done a proper days work in their lives Blair and Brown fall four square into that bracket:p

It's highly probable that they squeeze their own toothpaste out though.

Still, at least butlering helps to fill a small gap in the job markets, now we are no longer a predominantly manufacturing nation.

And most politicians form their own clique with people of similar backgrounds, (it stops them from having to use their conscience).

Who did you say your best mate is?

Ah, well, now we know why.

My best mate Less is Mthead Dad, closely followed by Cllr Brian Walmsley and Ken Hargreaves, after that I have a lot of acquaintances

There's definitely a common theme running through those choice of friends.

Personally my friends come from a wide spectrum of people, and all have many differing views.

I guess I'm just lucky, as I find it keeps the friendships fresh.

You've seen my avatar. This pet has a very nasty bite when roused -but sticks and stones, etc. . .

I'd appreciate it if we could cut the snide comments and get back to proper debate in a grown up manner, instead of sniping at each other all the time.

Just depends what you consider friendship Garinda, I have only three real friends Two I've known all my life that's Ken and Tom, the latter I grew up with and see him virtually every week, Ken I knew from church and I was responsible for his involvement in politics, Brian has been a friend for over twenty years mainly through working together on projects for young people, after that I have a tremendous number of acquaintances, from all walks of life and with various interests, and that includes people I've met on web sites too

You don't have to defend your choices.

From what I know of them all, each are good men.

I was just pointing out the fact that my friends are drawn from many different walks of life, and all have vastly differing views.

Some find comfort in 'like chooses like', while others don't, and prefer friendships to be more challenging.

I'm sure that might cease just as soon as people aren't wrongly labelled as 'idolising' someone they don't, and moaning about things, that are then proved to be incorrect, e.g. 'never received one penny in benefits'.
