The Burkha Ban planned for France has been further outlined in a leaked memo.
Express.co.uk - Home of the Daily and Sunday Express | UK News :: Men face jail over ban on burkha

Belgium are also a step nearer as its been passed in the draft form.
Unveiled - Belgium's burka ban / English News / News / Today / Start - Euranet

Also Holland one of the most relaxed & open minded Countries in Europe are making more noises. But of Course with all this "Anti Muslim Feeling" guess who's up on their hind legs threatening reprisals & the wrath of the righteous ?

"We will seek dreadful revenge on France by all means at our disposal, for the honour of our daughters and sisters."

Last year Al Qaeda vowed revenge on France if it banned the burqa on its streets. Islamic leaders have warned that a law banning veils in the streets could stigmatise Muslims and drive some to extremism.

Now there's a surprise !! Christianity is slated on a regular basis, Judaism also comes in for regular hounding along with virtually every other religion major or minor, but the followers of that faith just live with it, they don't go out threatening death & destruction to the detractors or their peoples. Is it any wonder "Extreme" Muslims come in for such critique ? Lighten up & perhaps we'll be more tolerant !

Its a bit like the usual statement about reprisals because USA and GB are killing our muslim brothers and sisters, more muslims kill each other than anything else, look what Saddam did with the Kurds:(

To judge from talking to people in the streets, immigration (illegal or otherwise) is the main concern for the majority of people.

Whether they are palatable observations or not, Muslims have made themselves a target for people venting their spleen by essentially making certain areas of this country unwelcoming to the British.

Re: Insult to Muslims

Laws already in place are now being used in Italy, don't we also have anti terrorist laws along the same lines in UK ?

Express.co.uk - Home of the Daily and Sunday Express | UK News :: Mayor of Novara defends fining woman for wearing burkha

The main points of interest I think are the following sentences :

Under Italian anti-terrorist laws introduced in the 1970s to fight political activists, it is illegal to be seen in a public place with your face covered.

Mr Giordano said: “I signed the new regulations for reasons of security, but also so that people who came to live in our city are aware and respect our traditions.

The regulations in Novara specifically cover people wearing clothing that prevents them from being identified in a public place and a post office is a public place.

“This would also apply to a motorcyclist who walked into a post office wearing a crash helmet. The people of Novara do not want to see people walking around in the city wearing a burkha.

If it can happen in Italy why not here ?

So long as morons like this are allowed free rein in UK, people are going to have a downer on Muslims. It's very difficult for the average bloke on the street to separate the good from the bad (Muslims) & when their own kind wont clamp down on these cretins !! The British public will continue to cry foul & the Muslim will always feel Insulted by our attitude, but whose fault is it ?

According to the latest census & various other studies, around 70% state their faith (in UK) to one of the Christian denominations. The rest is made up from other faiths with varying numbers of followers/believers/non believers.

Hence the statement "As far as I know,UK is still classed as a Christian Country"

Think the 70% figure is misleading , it would be more interesting to know how many of todays 'Youf' were ever baptised/Christened , or infact how many of their parents were married in a "proper' Church.

 According to the tin SJ :-

Humanism

Humanism is the view that we can make sense of the world using reason, experience and shared human values and that we can live good lives without religious or superstitious beliefs.
Humanists seek to make the best of the one life we have by creating meaning and purpose for ourselves. We choose to take responsibility for our actions and work with others for the common good.
Humanists do not believe in a God or gods, or any other supernatural or divine entities. Humanists do not think that the universe needs a divine power outside of itself in order to have value. We, inside the universe, determine its value. We think that other people, for example, are moral concerns, not because they are made in the image of Something Else, but because of who they are in themselves.

And you can even find out if you are one  Have fun !! :)

Are you a Humanist?

Say what you will about the French, I personally believe that they have it right.

It's not being racist or hostile to foreigners, it's simply protecting your national identity. There is also the common sense argument about restricted vision which would comfortably find you failing your MOT in Great Britain if your windscreen has cracks within a certain area.

I note that the crucifix has also been banned in state schools so the all-purpose 'racism' card that usually gets played on these occasions doesn't really cut it.

When in Rome....

We've had this debate before, the time for a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty was before it was ratified not now. It would cost thousands of pounds we don't have to tell everybody what we all know would have happened if Labour had kept their manifesto commitment, and had the referendum they promised, a resounding rejection. So the boy David's "cast iron promise" wasn't worth a light. Of course, he could have widened the debate by having a referendum on our membership of the EU, but he hasn't got the guts to do that, because he knows what the answer will be!

Couldn't agree more Wyn, the subject has been aired on numerous occasions, I chose to live in Germany, so I had to learn their language same as many other ex-pats who've settled elsewhere. Barrie in France is another example, didn't see the authorities falling over themselves to get things done in English to make our lives easy ! We had to conform & fit in with our hosts, so can they ! should they not want to, better that they stay put.

And what about the EU immigrants? It now appears that the Romanian who hitched a ride in the landing gear of a 747 from Vienna to Heathrow on Sundayis entitled to say in this country because he is an EU citizen. I would have thought that a number of laws would have been broken in this jolly jaunt so why he was not immeadiatly returned to Romania, I do not know.

Now that's a thought. Is it not driscrimination to have leaflets printed in English, Urdu, hindu or whatever it is but yet none translated into Spanish, Germen, French, Italian etc? Why are they just in English, Urdu and Hindu?

Each country has the right to do what it deems best for its people for better or worse. We may be soft and nambie pambie around this issue but others are not.

At least the zealots don't have a problem with our Western conundrum,

"does my bum look big in this?"

How can I tell? it's a tent, anyway which wife are you?

Another thought, over here we seem to produce a 50/50 ratio of men to Women, how come they have Women to spare?

'Stop doing the doggy paddle young lady come and live in hose pipe Britain with me',

I knew I could help in a crisis!

The burqua ban, if it is banned in Holland , will be to get an anti-Islam MP and his little group on side to enable a coalition government to be formed .

I can see occasions when it is better not to wear the burqua , but being anti-Islam is not for me .

I am anti-Islamist , but not anti-Islam .

The home of Islam is Saudi Arabia - I will more easily accept Muslims when Saudi Arabia allows Christianity and Christian Church Services to be openly practiced in Saudi Arabia - i.e. the holding of religous services in places other than the Western Embassies
