Personally if I have anything I think is worth saying, I'm more than happy to do it publicly, rather than all this behind the scenes whispering in individual ears. |

Though I don't think that's been the case for the last thirty years. Still odd that he's prepared to whisper his reasons privately, but not publicly. Can't imagine the electorate of Milnshaw will be too impressed. Perhaps he doesn't care, once he's been able to dress up as the Mayor. |
Re: Hyndburn Borough Council election results 2010
Most peculiar. He neither claims expenses nor explains his actions...what is he then - a ghost? Will the next mayor of Hyndburn wear a bed sheet over his head as his official dress uniform?

Well this resident of Milnshaw is not impressed. I don't know how many constituents he consulted to get his 60% - 40% split but I see it as nothing but betrayal of the voters who elected him. I hope he enjoys his stint as mayor, but I, for one , will not be voting for him again (if he stands.....perhaps being mayor will be his swan song) |

Rindy, Malcolm hasn't been a Councillor for the last thirty years. Malcolm use to work for the Council before he became a Councillor. I think he's been a Councillor for 8 years. Before that as I said he worked for the Council for a long number of years. |

You're right. in the press he said he'd 'served' the council for thirty years. Though presumably for the twenty odd years he was employed by them, he was paid a wage. Isn't the role of Mayor supposed to go to the longest serving councillor? Which I don't think is him. Explains why he was so keen to jump ship, if the mayorship, and all the fancy trappings, were promised to him, in exchange for support. The whole thing has a particularly unpleasant whiff about it. |

Perhaps they'll ditch the Mayor's car, and put wheels on the organ grinder's trolley.
 |

Malcolm's 8 years does make him one of the longest serving Councillors who haven't been the Mayor. There are others particularly in the Tory group who have much longer service than Malcolm, but presumably don't want the job. Incidentally, I have no principle objection to Malcolm being the Mayor. And if that's the decision of the Council then fine. But there are other Councillors with a similar length of service who also would like to be considered for the position of Mayor this year. |
