Re: Licence fee to be cut
This will probably be an unpopular thing to say but Great Britain really really needs the BBC and the licence fee. If you think that TV is crap now, just pray that the day never comes when we turn into Little America and it truly is wall-to-wall adverts and no quality programming.
Programmes such as CSI and Lost which are well-made and proved to be a worldwide success are very much in a minority. People may think that they never watch BBC stuff but it has far wider-reaching implications on the output of other channels. At the moment they need to compete with quality TV whereas they would simply spew out populist tripe 24/7 if all they had to do was garner viewers. I know this isn't the point of the thread but it's a little hobby-horse of mine. The BBC needs to trim the dead wood and fat salaries but it's starting to cut into areas it should be leaving alone instead, such as selling off its book and audio departments to third parties. Bad move. |

no-one i think is saying they don't need the license fee, just its extortionate n needs capping or reducing.

I don't watch enough TV to warrant Sky but Freeview is bad enough.
The vast majority of my favourite programmes over the years have been from the BBC, to turn it into another commercial channel will be the death knell for Britsh television. Some trimming of salaries is the best way of making it better value. |

Kiss that sort of thing goodbye if we lose the licence fee, it doesn't have Katie bloody Price in it. |

Re: Licence fee to be cut
Possibly not, but we'd end up with BBC3 being even more 'trendy' than it already is and wastes of space such as Paris Hilton being villified as top flight entertainment.
Give me David Attenborough's well-researched programmes anyday. |
