I've had snails before although I've resisted the temptation to 'pick my own'. I'm afraid that even the ones I had at a restaurant in southern France still tasted like rubber bullets.

I'll pass thanks.

In order to be sure that garden snails are fit to eat you have to be sure that their guts are free of nasty stuff - which involves feeding them in a controlled environment for several days before - which sort of defeats the object of 'free food'

I had them when in South Africa a couple of months ago as a topping to a nice piece of steak. They were juicy and not at all tough or chewy.

I've had them before as well, sauteed in garlic butter. I think like calamari and some other foods you can't overcook them or they become tough.

I'll try most things at least once, I've had deep fried worms, frog legs etc... I think you can only pass comment if you have at least tried. Siobhan actually asked a nice Q this weekend as to why people in France eat horse but we dont...

I've had em a couple of times, once in Paris, in Garlic and Parsley (Escargot Bourguignon), and once in Spain, in a more tomato based sauce. The one's in France were quite nice actually, but the Spanish ones i had were very chewy. I dont think they'd taste of much if you ate them on their own!

I've had Horse Meat and Frogs Legs in Belgium....Frogs Legs were nice...the Horse Meat wasn't!...and Pigs Intestines stuffed with Shrimp paste at a Chinese in London, which was very sickly after a few mouthfulls!

Best Regards - Taggy
