Cuts should be made so that the government has money left to help those most in need. We currently have a £149 billion deficit. That is, we're spending £149 billon more than we can afford, every year. It's completely unsustainable and how you can argue in favour of continued spending I don't know.

We should be cutting free milk for the children of millionaires. Why should those on low incomes pay tax to put food in the mouths of millionaires? It seems bizarre that you're advocating it Mancie.

Yes it is strange.. all the cuts seem to involved those on low incomes..I have not seen any cuts proposed for your millionairs, it would be a waste of time and money to grab back the taxes from the rich bankers who paid for the Tory victory.. £300 billion in owed tax.. yet this Govermnent seem to set up private Quangos to seek 1.5 billion in benifit fraud..wake up young man!

...and it seems even more bizarre that your mate Cameron's advocating it, too. Still, just like the last lot, image takes precedence over policy.

Qoute from Margaret..."[b]If you cannot afford milk for your children , then don't have children".[/B.. of course.. the talk of the 30's .. you and your Tory minded freinds would love this sort of econmic policey ]
If this country has gone to the grind were we cannot feed children because of the cuts you approve then god help us.

Firstly Mancie, I do not have 'tory minded friends' as you put it.
As for being in line with the current government.......well, you and I have visited this spot before.
I grew up in the late forties/early fifties. I know all about poverty.
I know exactly what it is like to have no prospect of food on the table because my father was war damaged and my mother struggled to feed us.

The poverty we talk of today is one where the householders in the main do not have a job, and in some cases have never had a job......but these poor families can afford to smoke, sit on their backsides and watch Jeremy Kyle on TV...on their large screen Plasma TV....with their Playstation for the poor children......but can't afford milk?!!!
All these mod cons are being paid for by the tax payer.....me,(and others like me, who have worked all of our adult lives and claimed absolutely nothing.....OK, sick pay twice after major surgery) out of my meagre pension.

What I want Mancie, is a government with enough cojones to sort out the dire financial situation we are in.

As I have said many many times, whatever we have as a society, has to be paid for. The last government let us live on borrowings that should never have happened....they were either too stupid or too weak to call a halt to the stupid spending that went on. Now we all have to pay for it.
Stop Bleating about it....build that bridge.

COMPLETE reform of the benefits system would save untold millions. Far more is paid out than is being paid in and as far as I can see this is where the black hole is.

We have a system where is is more beneficial to stay at home than go to work, we have an open door policy to immigrants at the expense of people who were born here and a top-heavy management structure in most of the public sector.

I'm not blaming any particular government but someone needs to put the brakes on and start being ruthless - I hate to say it but look at the French.

Getting back to the subject of school milk, it was always left in the sun till 10.30am for us and was awful but I could still see the beneficial side of the scheme even then.
