Re: Mosque at Ground Zero
If you read the more factual news reports instead of the ones that like to sensationalise things -
It isn't a mosque and it isn't at Ground Zero - this is all propaganda hype that's blown up out of proportion. It's a community centre to try to build relationships between Christians and Muslims up, so that things like 9/11 don't happen again. And, it's about two blocks away from Ground Zero. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Park51 |

Re: Mosque at Ground Zero
I know that this proposal is for a community centre which will house the facilities of a mosque........and yes it might be two blocks away from ground Zero, but that is, in my estimation, too close.
The feelings of Americans are still very raw where this incident is concerned. Their feelings should be taken into consideration. |

:) Well put and based on facts .:) The trouble is Al-Qaeda and other fundamentalist and extreme Muslims won't take the slightest notice . But good on those Muslims who are promoting reconciliation . Park51 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |
Re: Mosque at Ground Zero
Just heard some good news from a chum of mine over at the Royal Mint. The figurehead of Britannia is to be restored to all British coinage from 2012.
The bad news is she'll be wearing a Burka. |

Re: Mosque at Ground Zero
I work with Muslims. Each one of them was horrified by 9/11. None of them wear the burqa (full length garment with head covering) or niqab (full face veil).
All of them see themselves as British. Clearly, however, there are some on this site who would disagree, going by the comments here. Even from the moderators, for God's sake. Have you ever wondered if sometimes the way we treat others makes them behave in a particular way and that this is what causes the "problem"? Didn't think so. |

Those are the individuals that bring about the comments & attitudes so often displayed within these pages. I myself have worked with many different people with different backgrounds, beliefs, faiths & Nationalities. Working together with all these folk & there has not been a conflict or clash of interests as we all adapted & gave concessions to one another, which sadly isn't the case in many instances in the UK that are highlighted on here. |

We could turn that around too, and ask that question of religious fundamentalists. ;) |

Several years ago during one of the petrol shortages, a garage in Blackburn put a sign up outside saying 'Asians Only' and got nicely away with it. During various conflicts with the Middle East we have had so-called 'British' Muslims travelling out of this country to fight for the enemy against the Allied Forces and then returning to Great Britain afterwards to resume life as a citizen here. The danger is tarring all Muslims with the same brush but my view is that you respect the way of life in whichever country you choose to live. If I stomped over to Iraq or Afghanistan and started demanding things like bacon and eggs as a minority right then I would not expect a very warm welcome and quite rightly so. |
