Security threat or?

I think I'm becoming a conspiracy theorist!!

Obama using words like 'credible', 'apparently', 'explosive materials', top gun teams of Maverick and Iceman escorting an Emirates filght to landing on National TV, one that took off from Dubai, not Yemen, but is instantly known as a muslim airline by its logo?

credible?.. something believable... like santa claus, fairies, elves, god?

apparently?... something that is reported second hand... like santa claus, fairies, elves, god?

explosive materials...something like toner cartridges, cigarette lighters, deoderants?

and finally....the top gun team...erm? why?..surely if theres a definite terrorist issue you shoot down the 400 in the plane, you dont risk a landing/last minute deviation and let it blow up 1k+ on the ground.

Aint it weird, yesterday BA says the USA are too strict on passengers, today there is a major bomb scare.

Packages addressed from the Yemen to a jewish bagle house in New York on a cargo plane, and the explanation is its a test run???

A test/dry run that is addressed to the final target, Wow! some really, really, really, really dumb terrorists?

Personally, I really don't know what to believe here, bbut I'm damn sure that something aint right!

this incident i am very skeptical of, we banned ourselves from visiting the USA about 3 years ago, after experiencing gestapo tactics at different U.S. airports, which is a shame cos we love the country n the folk we met.:(

I don't think even a paranoid USA would go to the trouble of launching jet fighters just because of BA complaining about security... end of the day it's their country and they can impose any measures they deem fit.

You miss the point. Mav and Ice were lauched to show the power of the US on TV. Jingoism... Thatcher/Belgrano?

Wonder if the cargo carrying Emirates jet landed with Fox/CBS playing the tune of 'take my breath away'. C'mon you guys living in the states..how are they playing the fighter 'forced landing'?

I get what you are saying... but you make the point that all this carry on could be linked to British Airways complaining about over the top security measures.. I don't think there is a link.

Your not wrong about Fox/Sky (Murdoch owned) playing it up a bit , though the reports do say that the Canucks F16s from the north of us escorted the Emirates jet from mid Atlantic into US air space ,presumably taking over from the RAF , the flight from Dubai to New York overflys the UK (check 'great circle routes') does seem a bit odd packages addressd to a jewish synagogs with Yemeni postmarks ....give me a break , I'm thinking even the dumbest of the chosen people would have been wise enough not to open it. ;)

not very many jews in yemeni.even if it was a stunt which i doubt ,what right has british airways or any other airline have the right to put anybody in danger to save a bit of cash.i dont mind gestapo or any other tactics as long as i was alive at the other side.people have short memories theres a big terrorist act on the way and if i ,or any of my families life was saved by the security services doing ther job properly im all for it.

Fighter's escorting!!! Beggars belief. Since the 11 september 2001 attacks all airliners have a armoured doors fitted to the flight deck. This stops any would be terrorist from access. The doors are bullet proof, but obviously the US Air Force does not trust anyone!!!!

Re: Security threat or?

dont blame them, actually would trust them more than the airlines now after the most stupidest statement by that ba guy.just because nothing has happened for a while in the western world lets have lapse security lets encourage the terrorists ye right:confused::confused:

Re: Security threat or?

I have been though the Safest Airport in the world, in the last week. Ben Gurion, Tel Aviv. Security took less than 15 minutes, ALL of my crew were profiled and baggage scanned, both hold and hand. The airport was at the busiest part of the day as well. Even Cargo there is screened in similar ways and it is still quicker than any of the so called security concious airports we have here in the west.
The number of Hijacked airliners that have departed Ben Gurion, None....

The problem with profiling, is that there are certain members of religious groups who feel that they are being unfairly treated.

I agree with you about the BA statement, its the old say where terrorism is concerned, we have to be luck 100% of the time, they only have to be lucky once, better to take a little longer at the airport and reach your destination, than speeding things up and a plane ends up in the Atlantic

Re: Security threat or?

i have no problem wi taking a bit longer fer security reasons, the problem i got is how we were treated by staff at USA airports, the missus was very upset n wanted to come straight back home, its the only country of many we have visited this has happened. its unacceptable simple as.:( when ya have experienced such treatment, ya will know what yer talking about.

Very true Jay, also the aircraft used on that day were all domestic flights.
The terrorists had been trained in the US as well.
it is time that the US and Europe take some lessons from the Israeli's, they know about security.
